Aww, did it break open, or just crack? If it is only a crack you can repair it. And it's okay- everyone has made mistakes with incubating- I've broken a developing egg open too. It was very sad because it was quite far along.
I think it might have been dead though.
Other than that, my hatch date is March 21st... Can't wait 
I have a small high lumen LED flashlight that I use. It uses aaa batteries but it outshines maglites that take 3 D cells. The lens on it is just slightly smaller than a quarter and so I just cut some paper to about 1 1/2 inches x 5 inches and wrapped it around the top of the flashlight and taped it so that I can just turn it on and put the eggs on top of it and have all the light go through the egg and not come out the sides. Works very well. I was able to candle my Easter Egger bantam eggs today that I had shipped to me. It is day 7 and out of 13, I had 3 that were infertile, and about 4 more that were "questionable". They had some mass in them but no visible veins that I could tell. Maybe the embryos died? I just put them back in seperate from the other eggs and will candle those ones in a few more days to see if they have made any progress. Let's hope so, otherwise I'm down to 50%

I just candled day 14 too. I culled 7 unfertilized eggs at day 10 leaving me with 15 eggs and... wait for it... ALL ALIVE AND MOVING! I've done all my calculations (it's my first time, remember, I'm being anal) and I've got an average of 7.6g total lost, which is a 13% weight loss avg., air sacs look good. Those two eggs next to each other are still balancing the numbers in their differences. One is now lost 10g and the other 4g (remembering the avg is 7g). One is clearly stealing from the other, lol. If they both hatch, it'll be Laurel and Hardy.Now I just have to make it to lockdown. Patience.
HI again everyone- wow this is a busy thread, can't keep up w/ all the post!
I had a bad day- woke up this morning to 6 dead chicks! Somehow my ecoglow got unplugged in the brooder last night, I discovered it when I found the dead chicks. so upset!!! 4 of my basque chicks, 1 choc orp & 1 frizzle. Even tho the heater was on in the house, I guess it wasn't enough to keep them warm enough w/o the ecoglow.
Then had a doc. ap, on the way home DH stopped @ the feed store so we could get our feed. They had bunnies in, DH said go ahead pick out the 3 I liked best! I got 1 male, 2 females. I was so excitedStill sad about my chicks, but this lifted my mood alot!
