Lady, congrats on you other chickie-doodles!! Love the brahmas & feather feet. If none of your other eggs have pipped externally, you can probalby quick check them for internal pips & life. Candle, look for internal pip, hold to your ear & give a tiny tap to listen, etc.

Good luck on your marans. It does sound like you weren't the only person that had problems with the BCMs. Hopefully you'll have better luck with the Wheatens.

I just went to candle them. The first one I picked up chirped at me so I put right back. That was a BO egg. The other three were candled and very obviously dead, all settled to one side, very liquidy-looking, the shells porous. They gave up at some point after day 18.

Ok so nothing else is happening to the one that has pipped and I can't see anymore action on the rest. I am noticing a slight stinky smell from the bator. It hasn't gotten any worse, I dnt see any tell tail signs of nasty eggs, so right now I'm not going to worry about it.


I'm glad it's almost bed time ....I'm getting really nervous

How many have hatched so far?
My bator had a nasty smell after about half eggs had hatched and I had 10eggs that died after day 18

Still only one pip but its chirpping. I did a quick check of them last night, I smelled an odor. I took out 16 that were quitters on around day 18.. i found my stinker, so I'm glad that I got that one out before it killed the rest. I'm now left with 27 movers and shakers so I'm still hopeful.

I'm just hoping this one hatches so I dnt have a devastated child. I'm on day 22 so how much hope can I have???

I have my first three silkies ever!
Not the best hatch, but considering the weather the eggs were shipped through, (My fault) I am happy to have any.
So far I have two black, and one partridge.

I agree, somehow the chicks just look at peace when they are peeking out from under momma!
It is probably just me trying to put human traits on them, but mine just seem to have more of a lost look when standing out by themselves.

Friar Tuck - We are not too far from you over near Duluth. My In-laws have a cabin near Baudette on the Canadian side of the Lake. We just love going up there!
