March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

HI,
To all of you sweating it out....I wish I could just give you a hug and help you with patience..................

Likely what you need to do is nothing...just let mother nature do her job....................
My experience is that it is not an exact art.=)............Even my broody hens do not always hatch on my time............
Sometimes takes a little time......Opening the incubator to check one is a real gamble.........
I have to ask myself..Do I really want to jeopradize all of my eggs to check one?????????
Honestly.I almost never open the incubator during lockdown.............
and I give the eggs extra days.I have had healthy chicks at day 25..............

Nothing is worse for me than helping to soon and having a chick bleed out or be so deformed I had to cull it.
There is really good information under incubation thread....
" WHEN TO HELP AND HOW TO HELP"....It is located at the very top of the thread...
Good Luck to you..nice we can learn together isn't it.............

Look what I got! Turkens! I always said I'd never get one, and I didn't. I got two.

The black one's name is Baby, as in Naked Baby.

The buff one's name is Honey Boo Boo.

I love my little nekked necks!

Aren't they precious? They grow up to look like this when they have the feathered neck like yours do! Especially your red one. This is my white I had.

I set mine in egg cartons and punch a hole in the bottom of each cup...........always fat end up...........
I don't know why..just works for me ............

Good Luck
I had a problem the other day with lockdown in a carton . When all had hatched i opened the bator and here was an egg that had pipped away from where i could see it in the carton .
Was way dead stunk. I felt bad had i known i could have saved it
I guess it could happen with laying down but seems like you have less angles to see when up, I also worry if they pip too low.... and side of carton is against their pip ?
Will it suffacate them?can they breath well?
Then the hatched chicks about 8 of them were laying all over the eggs like on a beach sunbathing Draping over them to sleep walking on them laying on them How 3 hatched ill never know

Down can roll them but not climb on top , not lal the way and stay anyway But still up in the air ...Up down I do both so far.

I'm just a newbie on my first hatch ever. I wasn't sure if I should lay them down or put them in egg cartons to hatch. I had read a post on BYC that a good idea was to lie them down but slightly raised at the fat end for hatching. So, what I've done is lay them on folded cotton pads (just the air cell end). This keeps the air cell slightly raised and seems to be working perfectly. So far all my pips are at the very top of the egg within the air cell.

Just been and checked and egg no 3. has pipped!!! Yaay!!!!!

Humidity has gone back up to 69% without me adding any water. There's a lot of condensation on the bator now. Temp was a little low so I partly wrapped bator in a towel.....but I'm keeping a close eye on things in case that towel needs to come off.

Oh my! I'm beginning to realize just what life savers these little fluffy butts are!!

Two years ago, I managed a communications department. Yesterday, I received verbal approval of my permanent disability status under our federal government. What a change my life has been! One year ago, I got my first chicken - and found a new, more meaningful purpose in life. I've traded in the boardroom meetings and high heels for shoveling out chicken coops in hip waders. (Yay!!

) Oh, and did I mention I have one VERY tolerant husband (the man who said he'd never get married, never have kids and never have more than one pet. HA!), plus two boys (aged 11 and the other 4 on Sunday). Yup, without my kids, birds n gardens, I think I'd have gone insane! Now, if only I could convince hubby I need a larger incubator....
