Nice, we have always themed out chick egg names.

First was chook meals, then hot drinks, the last lot were astro type names. Thinking the next lot might be metals/gems?

Okay, I owe everyone a HUGE thank you who helped me and encouraged me tonight. I'm so glad that I was able to help the little guy thanks to everyone's advice. Without you guys, this chick probably wouldn't have made it. Right now, s/he is trying to kick off that last piece of shell, and I'm only seeing one leg...?? Hopefully when I wake up in the morning s/he will have gotten the shell off and will be running around the 'bator, waiting to meet Stormy... BTW, this one is named Raine.

Great job helping your chickie-doodle! How is Raine doing this morning?

Good morning everyone,
Have been trying to catch up this moning.
Great news I hope for Bantys little chick.
Will keep checking back this morning to see how it has gone......

I candled the three eggs under my Serama broodies last night.....
They look good.........

Have myself quite a delema...........both hens setting the eggs.............and already sharing a month old chick.
Hate to seperate them but not certain how the two age group chicks are going to do.
Guess I'll just have to watch and decide as things progress............
I've had two hens share a clutch before but never with an age difference in the chicks...........
Also. lockdown for a few eggs.due tomorrow.............

Broody hens make it a lot easier.................

Chickies!!! These guys just popped out:




And this guy looked like he was gurgling in there so I gently removed two bits of shell. Last time I checked I could still see movement so I hope he will be ok.


No obvious action on any of the other eggs though...

ok, having chick issues! one already died, 2 are acting very sleepy, lethargic very weak. i've been giving them wet, warm chick starter, my sister is bringing home some pedilight. so what else can i do? i've just cleaned out there brooder, they have clean water....any suggestions?

i hate this! my only banty just died, he was acting fine but during the night they started going crazy so i looked and there he was...laying on its side dead. i changed the feeder, i thought maybe it was to big and they couldn't get around it. my daughter will be devastated if they die. grrr this makes me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's Raine this morning...

S/he has two legs and is walking around the 'bator this morning! Only, the shell is still covering his rump... Should I go ahead and pull that off? Or just wait for it to come off? Stormy will be so happy to have a buddy!

How old are the babies? Did you clean up their pasty butts like I recommended? Do they still have poop over their vents? Put two tablespoons of sugar and some vitamin/electrolyte powder in their waterer and use that water to make your mush.

Pasty butt has been covered................soooooo the only times I have had this happen is...........
A box I used as a brooder learned it was toxic.....................
Assuming your bedding is correct???no cedar.
Coccidiosis...................may see a little blood in the stool...............
Are you feeding medicated feed?
Have you tried the illness and disease thread??????????
