March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Yay to all the babies making their way out!! My polish mix (SLP w barred rock roo, so this will be interesting) pipped in the night and has started to zip :)

My quail eggs on the other had that I thought were due yesterday, but could be today, have absolutely nothing going on :( I'm hoping its just not time and that they will make their way out shortly, but I'll admit I'm starting to lose hope.

Pugbug...that is awesome!! Post some pics!!

Yep that's what I've learned to do too! Only trouble I have is when they do night time hatches- like last night. I had 2 pipped within 30 min of each other. I stayed up all night, then when I fell asleep at 5:30am, my husband woke me @ 5:45 saying "you missed it, you got a chick toddling around your incubator"

We were outside all day today, came in this evening and the other pipped chick was 'glued' in there. I've done a little zip to clear the beak for breathing and it's now doing the rest itself- however since no other eggs had pipped I candled and found all other chicks internally pipped but dead in the shell...
I figured that is what would happen to me too so I set up my camcorder last night on my tabletop tripod to record while I slept. My hubby laughed his butt off. Thought is was the dumbest thing. He said, "It's not like you don't know what's going to happen. It's the same thing that happens every time." and I ignored him and set it anyway! lol I have three pips...same as yesterday. They are all three pecking at the same spot and just making it wider. Not zipping. They pipped at 2:30pm, 4pm and 7:30pm yesterday. I thought for sure they would hatch during the night but no dice. They haven't turned at all. UGH.

I am so sorry to hear about your losses! That is so hard. It happened to me last week with a couple.

To come so close...it just drives me nuts! None of my others have pipped either and I am scared but trying to keep the faith. I'm afraid the same thing is going to happen again but also don't want to interfere too soon either. These were really expensive shipped eggs from SQ stock and I don't want to lose them.

Well I got to looking at the barely zipped egg and noticed the lining looked dry, so I chipped a little of the egg away and sure enough the the lining was dried to the chick. So, I assisted and chick was ready to come out..no blood or yolk left. Now letting it rest until it gets ready to wobble around :)

My Maran chick that pipped through the vein started zipping and didn't make it through the night. She just lost too much blood I'm assuming since she pipped through her umbilical and vein. She was positioned under her foot instead of a wing. :( my only other egg that developed after the power outage pipped on wrong end seems to have drowned. So no chicks out of this batch. Promised my son that we will try again soon. Thankfully our 6 that we bought local are doing GREAT, the BR and Del are feathered out, but the 2 RIR are almost 2 weeks younger and need some more indoor time :)
