You can cull or try to rehab, I've read about people keeping them in slings and all sorts of things, but as long as he is alive he's shedding it if that's what it is. Thank you!!! I’ll be sure to do that. They are actually moving to a new coop hopefully soon (it’s almost done) but I’ll scrub everything down in the meantime. He’s currently in a separate coop but was living with them up until a couple weeks ago so I’m sure they already have it. I actually think they probably gave it to him because they are vaccinated. :(

But I’ll be sure to scrub everything down anyway.

I really think the problem here is the over vaccination. It started as a good idea or good intentions I think but they probably didn’t realize it would make the issue worse. I think they probably were losing a lot of chickens and money and came up with the vaccine.

I just want to add to what ValarieJ has said. Killing any creature should never be easy. What many vets say is we; those who are on the borderline of pets v livestock tend to wait too long. I've waited too long a few times over the years. I hope nobody will think any worse of you for finding it a difficult decision. What I would say is try to think what is best for the chicken and not what you feel comfortable with.

Thank you! This actually really helps a lot. He really does not look comfortable even though he’s eating. It’s sad watching him. So it’s like I know in my head putting him down today is the right thing to do but I was hoping to be able to reach the lab first. But since I can’t, I really feel like it’s best to just do it now and if I mess up the test and can’t do it, then oh well. My dad offered to do it and my brother did too but I think I’m just going to do it myself now.

I have an ill chicken.
Can you recommend a way for me to kill him and how should I package his body to send to your lab for a necropsy.

Keep it short and simple.


also did you find out if the lab is within driving distance to your house?
Do I need to check for you?
