1) What type of bird , age and weight.
11 wk old EE pullet, not sure of weight.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
First started as walking around "drunkenly" now has progressed to bird seriously stumbling around and laying down most of the time. Doesn't seem to favor either side, seems like it's both legs. Yesterday left eye was closed and I put a warm, wet compress on her eye and administered some eye drops and it was back open and clear in a few hours. She seems alert and wants to be active but the lameness/stumbling is affecting her.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
A few days
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No, thank God!
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Had a VERY aggressive SLW that was really picking on this bird, pulling her tail feathers out, picking her in the head, chasing after her, etc. Gave the SLW away due to the fact that she started to turn on my other birds, too.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
She is eating and drinking just fine when I feed her. She was having a hard time making it to the feed & water outside and I couldn't watch her struggle. She is on Purina Flock Raiser, fresh water with ACV, and fresh fruit & veggies.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Cecal...mustardy yellow/orange. No worms that I can see.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Brought her in the house to isolate her from other birds and so that she didn't have to move around so much. Gave her polyvisol, inspected her for pests, inspected her for injury & trauma.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I've been trying to get a hold of WSU Aviary's dept but no one is returning my calls and I'm at my wits end. Don't know what else to do...
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
I will try and post a pic.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use.
4X7 coop and 10X7 attached run. Use sand and pine chips in the coop and the run is still grass.
Please help if you can, I'm willing and able to do everything I can for her but will humanely cull her if she is indeed suffering. Never like to see an animal suffer if it can be helped. I really appreciate any and all ideas & information, thank you!
