1) What type of bird , age and weight.
11 wk old EE pullet, not sure of weight.

2) What is the behavior, exactly.
First started as walking around "drunkenly" now has progressed to bird seriously stumbling around and laying down most of the time. Doesn't seem to favor either side, seems like it's both legs. Yesterday left eye was closed and I put a warm, wet compress on her eye and administered some eye drops and it was back open and clear in a few hours. She seems alert and wants to be active but the lameness/stumbling is affecting her.

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
A few days

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No, thank God!

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No.

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Had a VERY aggressive SLW that was really picking on this bird, pulling her tail feathers out, picking her in the head, chasing after her, etc. Gave the SLW away due to the fact that she started to turn on my other birds, too.

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
She is eating and drinking just fine when I feed her. She was having a hard time making it to the feed & water outside and I couldn't watch her struggle. She is on Purina Flock Raiser, fresh water with ACV, and fresh fruit & veggies.

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Cecal...mustardy yellow/orange. No worms that I can see.

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Brought her in the house to isolate her from other birds and so that she didn't have to move around so much. Gave her polyvisol, inspected her for pests, inspected her for injury & trauma.

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I've been trying to get a hold of WSU Aviary's dept but no one is returning my calls and I'm at my wits end. Don't know what else to do...

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
I will try and post a pic.

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use.
4X7 coop and 10X7 attached run. Use sand and pine chips in the coop and the run is still grass.

Please help if you can, I'm willing and able to do everything I can for her but will humanely cull her if she is indeed suffering. Never like to see an animal suffer if it can be helped. I really appreciate any and all ideas & information, thank you!

Sounds like Mereks. Was she vaccinated as a chick for it? So common for birds to get, even the older ones.

I have heard it called "Range Paralysis" also. Might want to look it up on google. so sorry, good luck!

I'm not sure if she was vaccinated, my husband brought her home along with my other EE and Blue Marans. Now I'm worried about them because it sounds like Mareks to me too...

I'm going to give her 'til this evening and see what happens. I definitely don't want her suffering!

Mereks is not necessarily a death sentence. Some will survive it and live out a good life.

I see where you can order the vaccine from Jeffers to administer to day old chicks. Great to have on hand if you do hatch out your own.

I'm so sorry. What treatment are you offering your bird? I hope yours gets better, too...thanks for the well wishes.

I isolated her. Only been a few days and just really trying to figure out what it is exactly. The first day was pretty bad but seems like the next she was getting around better. Her symptoms are not a-typical of any particular thing. Pretty much drunkenly walking.loss of balance, high stepping..gets tired, lays down. No tumors, no cloudy eyes. no panting, etc. Seems to have a good appetite. Could drink more water though. Poop not runny or bloody. Some told me to give her the poly vi sol today because it could possibly be nutritional. All my birds were vaccinated from the hatchery for marek's and doesnt seem likely its cocci. So I have no idea. I let her free range with the others last night but noticed they were picking on her so back to isolation. Ill try the electrolytes and vitamins today and cross my fingers. Really hate to lose her.

Well, it certainly feels like it right now as she's not getting better and definitely not getting around well. I plan on ordering chicks this fall and you can be certain that I will make sure they are all vaccinated.

Definitely very similar to what I'm going through. I'm heading out there now to give her some polyvisol and also read that sometimes it can be a Vitamin E deficieny? I have some gel tabs on hand and will try that, too. I don't want to lose mine either, seems like just yesterday she was a little fluffy butt of a chick

I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of ours, best of luck!
