Mareks experience needed. prelim results pg 9

Like Krista said , having a cold is not a symptom of Marek's. And with the eyes, it's usually one eye that turns gray or cloudy. I hope you find out what your chicken had.

My mistake I called it a cold. Didn't know what else to call it, I'm treating him with duramycin and vitamin and electrolytes in his water. As for cloudy does that mean the eye is clouded over or cloudy around the pupil? Does the gray come in overnight or edge in the eye? Because he does have a blue on the end of his eye...

I don't know what that is.

And klf73 I'm so sorry you lost your English Orp, those are beautiful birds. Sending hugs your way

My silkie had an eye that was clouded over, the whole eye. But it can also be a pupil that becomes odd shaped.

Hi Everyone,

I am also waiting for the State Lab to send results on my Black Copper Marans and Birchen Marans. In the meantime, I spoke to the "Chicken Doctor" Peter Brown DVM and he recommends that I vaccinate all of my Chickens, and any new birds - no matter what age, as soon as they come in. Of course they should be kept totally separate from the others for the usual quarantine period. He said that it takes two weeks to develop immunity. I have two Blue Copper Marans and an Olive Egger coming today, and they will go right downstairs into the lower level, into a large dog crate. The vaccine from First State Vet Supply was just under $19.00. I'll divide into 4 parts and just reconstitute one dosage. I did also buy "Oxine" and plan on re-disinfecting everything again, including picking up all feathers.

Just an FYI, and I'm sure this has already been discussed, but since the vaccine is a Turkey Herpes virus, unvaccinated Chickens cannot "catch" the disease from the vaccine.

My condolences to everyone on their loses.

Hi Nonsuch! I see you are on the right track. I, too, will be vaccinating everything too, except my adults that I've had for a few years. I'm excited for you getting a few chicks!!! Please update!

I jut ran to the Post Office and picked up my new Juveniles...two of the three were dead! I have one young Blue Copper left...I cried when I lifted them out of the box.

The dead chicks were between 4 and 5 weeks of age. The Breeder was wonderful. We are going to wait for cooler weather then try again. This time I'm having her send 6 instead of just three. However I still feel terrible about the dead ones. The general consensus is that the rural Postage Carrier left them in the truck too long.

Thanks for the support!
