Now I just realized that the eggs that I have coming will go in a disinfected bator, and now I have to think about my clothes, my hair, the laundry basket, etc. As well as my husband's . I may have to get some gowns and gloves and hats from work. This will be harder than I thought.
I also had a sick chick in the bathroom that I have the bator in. This is just so confusing and depressing.............

Thanks Karen. The chick is no worse and in fact, maybe a little better. It just has a head 'tick' that seems to only show when she is eating. I'm wondering if the force of pecking isn't causing the injury to be more pronounced. Started her on yogurt and soaked feed. All soft stuff. I have noticed no ticking when eating soft foods...I'm hoping for the best but as with a lot of injuries, only time will tell.

Leadwolf, that soaked feed works wonders!!! The chickens act like this is a new great food, LOL

Fowlman01: Thank you for your reply. It is quite helpful.

One more question, have you ever vaccinated eggs if you bought new stock for your flock? I would like to add some Norwegien Jahourns (may not have spelled this right). The plan would be to buy in eggs and have my broodie hatch them for me. What is your experience with this sort of thing.

By the way, I love your medicine chest. Sooo simple. Of course, I may keep my ACV and yogert and horse dewormer in mine.

Do you do much for deworming or have your birds become fairly resistant to internal paracytes also? (yeah, I know, another question when I said the last one was the last one.

)

I had forgotten this, but there is something in turkey dung that repels Marecks. I don't how or why, but people who have severe problems with Marecks and don't want to vaccinate many times raise turkeys close to their chickens or just spread the turkey manure in the chicken cages. I don't know how much or how often because turkeys only last about a month or two on this property. I can't believe I forgot about that! I am sure that there is mention of this somewhere online as most serious breeders know of this technique.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with the hatchet in the Medicine Chest! I always give my animals, whether they are Cats, Dogs, Horses or Chickens every chance before humanely euthanizing. Just my opinion.

I have spoken to dh, we are going to cull any bird with signs of illness, since we know what it is, no need to let them linger and suffer. Of course we will inspect to make sure there is not another issue
