It's not that bad, they are still *very* easy to get.

but I think our system here in the UK where they have never been available over the counter makes us much more judicious about using them and that is probably a good thing.

The good thing about the way you guys do it there is when prescribed by a vet they will almost certainly be getting the correct dose of the drug.

Very good news Michelle! It is not the end of the world to have given one dose of amoxicillin. You are pretty knowledgeable about chickens, since I see you on threads daily giving good advice. So I am glad that you listen to advice and make up your own mind. You have so many friends on BYC, and though we all want to help, we can get a little insistant sometimes. There are all kinds of opinions about worming and antibiotics, feeding, etc. I tend to give info, maybe suggest things or say what others sometimes do, and let people make up their own minds. Many times the help is totally ignored, and that is fine.

Is she using the leg at all?

It may be that her ovary is releasing 2 yolks more or less at the same time and instead of producing a double yolked egg, they are developing separately and the shell gland only has enough calcium to give one a casing.
I was going to suggest cutting her food intake to see if that will reduce her productivity back down to one a day, but since she is eating very little during these periods of discomfort it will hopefully be self limiting, if this is in fact the problem.
