MarineCorpFarmr Egg BOMB, A new Beginning! Follow along in his journey to a new flock!

So I guess I should stop complaining about how cold it is here? :gig I am *freezing* when I get out of bed and it is 69* in the house so I have to wrap up in a blanket until the house heats up to 72* before I can get ready for work. And going out in the 40s for my 3 minutes of chicken chores is pure torture. My husband thinks I am crazy, but I swear my body hurts on the inside when I am cold. Bring on summer and 120*! Only then will I be happy.

I curse you with the 14* we have right now

Trust me, I've had quite a few startled or over anxious birds skate over my face, lol! The one coop I have with my favorite boy in it I've learned to open the door and quickly step aside. He takes flight out as soon as he sees sunlight through the crack as I open it. You'd think he'd learn to wait a second, as we've collided many times. Nope, so I step aside...

We are currently at -9°F. The kids & I just went out to feed. My rubber bowls were so frozen I literally had to turn the 2 biggest over & jump up & down on them to get enough ice out to add hot water. This old fat woman does not jump well. Nearly gave myself 2 black eyes when I forgot to fold my arm across my chest first. Found my little call drake frozen in the corner & had a turkey hen escape to the woods because my son was opening the door as she came out of the rafters. She hit him in the face & knocked him over then took the door to freedom. Hopefully she will come back here in a while wanting the breakfast she missed & I can slip out to let her in.

-9... yeah screw that lol

Bad Miss Henny has been returned to the coop after her escapades in the snow. Smacked me in the face with her wing when I went to grab her but I saw it coming & turned my head. She was older when I got her & not hand raised so is flightier than my others & escapes more often. She's always the last bird in the pen when I go to round birds up to transfer them. She's just now growing her leg feathers back from the plucking our last encounter resulted in when I dove for her...lol

making heart chains and heart fish and heart chicks lmao!!

That's too cute! Really loving the fish lips!!

Why cant I do this!!! OMG enough of this cold!!! the link to that short article and info is pretty cool a few things I didnt know!

Torpor

Many birds will enter torpor to conserve energy during cold winter nights. Torpor is a state of reduced metabolism when the body temperature is lowered, therefore requiring fewer calories to maintain the proper heat. Most birds can lower their body temperature by a few degrees, but torpid birds have lowered their body temperatures by as much as 50 degrees. Torpor can be a dangerous behavior, however, as the reduced temperature also leads to reduced reactions and greater vulnerability to predators. Hummingbirds, chickadees, swifts and other types of birds regularly use torpor as a way to survive cold temperatures.http://birding.about.com/od/birdingbasics/a/howbirdskeepwarm.htm
