MarineCorpFarmr Egg BOMB, A new Beginning! Follow along in his journey to a new flock!

:gig Oh the visual I just got, lol!!      On the other hand:confused: Your Call drake was frozen in the corner....as in to death?? Now I'm worried. I keep telling myself they are all fine...especially the ducks.
My calls are in with the chickens & turkeys at the moment because the gap under the door to the pen the bigger ducks & geese are in is big enough I'm afraid they can slip under it. I've lost 2 calls, a polish roo, a bantam roo & 2 bantam hens. Since everything I have lost id small I am thinking they may be weak because the bigger birds are crowding them out of the food. Having judt moved & only tarps for a roof on half of the coop it's definitely not the ideal set up. I expected to lose some because of the situation. I was judt hoping it wouldn't bee so many. It also wasn't helping that JJ's lazy butt wadn't even giving them water most days the past 2 weeks. If he saw ice in the buckets then they "were full" & couldn't possibly need to be emptied or refilled. I have health issues that make even walking most days in this weather very painful so I hadn't been checking the coops every day. When he came in & told me we had 3 dead birds I wrnt to see what was going on & discovered 1 bucket upside down, 1 on it's side & 1 with 2 inches of frozen crap in it. I blew up! That was just 1 of the many issues on the list that got him a free pass out the door the next day. I have lost 2 more birds since he left but I'm pretty sure it's residual from his negligence.

God, that's horrible! I'm so sorry....I think you're better off without him, I'm sorry to say.

My birds are my deal entirely but every single night when I bundle up to track out there and shut up coops, and bring waterer's in DH is right there helping me. No complaints, and I don't have to ask. On Saturday & Sunday's he helps me with the morning chores too. You need to get yourself a bird man Silkie, lol! Go and scope out the local livestock auctions, or farm shows

@roostereggs - I have the opposite problem. We keep the thermostat set on 62 in the winter and I am fine. My DH thinks I am intent on collecting insurance money on him and my method of choice is that I plan to freeze him to death! My DD called to say that their heat went out and she was coming to our house if hers went below 65. Her DH laughed and said she might as well wait a little longer! I am consistant all year, though, I like to be able to hang meat in the house in the summer as well! Last night, I was in Lowes in short sleeves and the man there said, "Where's your coat?" My reply, "I don't get cold." Seriously, I haven't worn a heavy coat since 1996 (before I got pregnant with my first son.)

@SilkieSensation - I agree with Gardeningmama, good riddance. I also agree that IF (and that's a big if) you want another BF, the auctions would be a great place to look. Also, poultry shows, meet-ups, and BYC! Just don't let him move in, he needs a place to go when you want him gone!

This would work if I wanted an Amishman. I've had the same 2-3 Amish boys following me around the swaps & auctions for the past 3 yrs...lol

Someone on here was joking the other day about starting a thread to search for poultry loving roommates/companions who never wanted to marry. I told them if they started it I would be the first to post...lol

They are great!

I just came from the barn and they are running and FLYING across the pen having a great time. I have a thermometer on the opposite wall as the heat and it is a steady 45 on the "cold" side of the pen. I put in a roost over the weekend and I believe one of the partridge/Easter Egger's is a cockerel. He/she stands on the top of the roost to flap his wings and will fly all the way across the pen. it is at least ten feet! He also chest bumps anyone that gets near him.

Already acts like a boy.

I made a dirt box (instead of a sandbox) and they are scratching and dirt bathing like it is summer time in there. when they get chilly they run back under the light to warm up and back out they go.

They sure are little piggies! I am filling up feeders twice a day. May be time to get one of those hanging seven pound feeders.

I'm still in love with the Black Orp pullet. well, at least I am sure hoping she is.

she is calm and sweet and I love her. Now I need a good name for her.
