I am in search of eggs for my next get the flock out of here run - Feb 27.

They need to be mailed feb 24 and be no more than 3 days old. 

Minimum of a doz to justify shipping costs

To complete the plan, I need;

Brown Leghorns

Swedish Flower Hens
Speckled Sussex
Golden Sebright
Banty Cochins

I am happy to cover all shipping and a fair price for eggs

I won't have anything for this run but if you sre interested in heritage turkeys or ancona ducks for the next round I should have those available by mid spring.

This organization is trying to restore what was never lost in our area of the world.

Because of the high cost of mechanization versus the low cost of labor, combined with the versatility of the animals, there are very few tractors used except for the pre-planting preperation for sugar cane. Most rice work along with sugar cane harvesting are done with humans and carabao as we call them.

Hey peeps! So my husband and I, (mostly me) have decided to have 4 pens of pure breed chickens. The first 3, I think I got covered. SG Dorkings, Silkies, and Ameracuanas. I need some ideas for the 4th pen. Preferably a dual purpose breed that forages well and will look pretty running amok in the yard. Any ideas??

speckled sussex, barred rocks, silver penciled rocks, heritage rhode island reds, BBS Orpingtons, buff orpingtons

and silkies arent real chickens from a chicken math point of view - they are the labor and delivery wing

Mix of clears and quitters Sally. Reset now and back on turning schedule. New electronics for the bator and a new hatcher should be built by the end of the month.

As I was reading this I was like, "What do you mean silkies are--" and at that point nearly died because I snorted my coffee. That was awesome. I'm debating between HRIR and Dominique, my husband wants either Austrolorps or FBCM.

I had the same reaction on the Silkies are not chickens for chicken math ;P

You might want to think about H BR , honestly I didn't think I liked "just plain black & white birds" but I got these H BR & they eneded up in the pen that forages right out my living room picture window and they are spectacular against the green grass. The birds are HUGE , the eggs are brown and large although not as plentiful as egg only focused breeds of course. I need to get recent pics. these are last fall, the cockerel was only 6-8 months, he looks _much_ nicer now, but this will give you an idea. 1 of the girls started laying again last week, so I'm collecting eggs to fertility test...











But if you are looking for *color* then you can't get much more colorful then the SFH (Swedish Flower Hens) , my little flock is not producing yet should be a few weeks & I don't have pictures (to do list is long) but I dare say you wouldn't find a more colorful flock than SFH and as far as fun to watch I have noticed they all seam to have the goofiest way of getting around, they all do this odd hip hop loping run from place to place, I guess it helps them avoid getting eatten (?) but they alternate free range days w/ my H BR and I'm keeping the SFH in the front yard out the picture window b/c of the colors and the silly silly way they run around. As far as eggs, I have 1 pullet from spring 2013 and apparently she started laying w/ jumbo cream eggs in late fall/early winter, I never saw who laid them but I couldn't figure any other girl for those eggs, but they were soooo jumbo I had a hard time imagining they were pullet eggs, I'm looking forward to see what I get from her when she restarts (soon?) b/c I'm a big fan of JUMBO eggs and if that holds true for the rest of the SFH (as claimed by GFF) then they will be my favorite breed by far. Anyway there are two options to consider.

AND MCF I am hoping to egg bomb you as soon as my girls get into gear and cooperate , the repeated "polar vortex" -15F for days alternating w/ 60F for a day has ruffled everyone's feathers around here

Speckled Sussex is a pretty bird that has good size
