MARYLAND THREAD!

hi everyone I am from belair md and looking to start my flock this spring. I am interested in bantams. if you breed bantams in Maryland let me know as I am trying to get a list together for spring to get all the chicks I want. I love silkies, also looking for polish, molted cochin and interested in learning about more.
Hi Amber. Welcome to BYC! This is a really great community. You'll get lots of good info and advice here ... and lots of good ideas, too. I'm right up the road from you, in Cecil County. I'm a sucker for bantams, too. We started out with them a few years ago as a 4H project, but they're addictive, so now we're both hooked! We have Nankin Bantams. They're a critically endangered breed, according to The Livestock Conservancy. You can check them out, here:

They're the coolest little birds I've ever had ... very sweet-natured with lots of personality. My roosters are so calm that the "extras" all live together in a single bachelor flock. It's pretty cool! We have a handful of young roos and cockerel available, right now, but we'll be setting eggs soon, so we may have some straight-run youngsters in a month or so.
Even if Nannies aren't your "thing," please stay in touch. It'll be nice to have an honest-to-goodness BYC "neighbor!"

Hi Karen ... and Welcome to Maryland (and Backyard Chickens!) Id you check with Washington County's Agricultural Extension Service, they can point you in the right direction for livestock ordinances. They're also the ones who coordinate Maryland's Master Gardener program, so they can hook you up with some like-minded new friends.
While you're waiting for info from he County, check out the coop pages here on BYC. You can get a lot of awesome ideas here!
Thank you very much for pointing me in a direction.

I'm really excited to get them going. It took me forever to find porcelains, and I've heard the same from others. I want to make them available to anyone who wants them.
I wish I'd found you a year ago. I had a beautiful pair that I tried forever to re-home. They went to a really super gal in PA who will likely have youngsters, and maybe even some breeding stock, by Spring.

It would be great to get unrelated bloodlines. Mine are hatchery stock, so there is a lot of improvement to be done. I only have one golden neck. He comes from a trio of golden neck, porcelain, and mille. I might have to start all over with that color.

I just sent a pm to a friend in PA who has milles fleur & porcelain d'uccles. She may be able to help you out. :fl

Hey All ... Is anybody here going to Ohio for the Nationals in October? Someone who may be interested in transporting a bird back with them? I can't make it, this year, but have someone willing to bring along a bantam rooster for me. I can have him shipped, but playing "pass the birdie" is a lot less stressful for them ... not to mention easier on the wallet!
