Mass Murder last night

Henry
Most country places are places where livestock is raised. I'm sure that most farming areas have laws regarding the killing of livestock. Farmers will want to protect thier livelihoods; which are dependent on animals. You are less likely to get into problems regarding destroying chicken killing dogs in rural areas than in cities or suburbs. Farmers cannot tolerate dogs that kill stock.

Denie,

So sorry about your chickies. Hopefully you will get restitution, but I know that won't make up for your babies.

I am so glad you and hubby were not bitten. Tell him he did good and hug him. I am very sorry you lost your babies and I know you are feeling totally lost.

If i'd had a gun i'd have shot the ones that got my chickens, but as it is, she went to animal control and never came out.
I'm very sorry for your loss.

The dog owner called and talked to hubby (who is much more tactful than I would have been). He owned one dog and a neighbor the other one. They were 2 miles from home.
Hubby said he sounded sorry of course he was sad for 'his' loss and gave a story of how that dog had such a hard start in life and yada yada like...OH well since your dog had heartworms and lived on the steet once upon a time its OK to come kill my babies...YEAH RIGHT!

Hubby told him we would be back in touch next week with what we think is a fair price. If he refuses what we arrive at as fair we will go to the next step and hire a lawyer.

Now I am not going to try to take this guy(I wouldnt want that to happen to me(Do unto others...)) and would like to have a FAIR idea of what my birds were worth.
SO...Could you guys help me decide? I will see what pics I have from yesterday and post them.

My sincere condolences on the loss of your feather babies...

I would do a search for chicken prices on this site and if you have a receipt/packing slip/whatever from the chicks that you bought...add that too including shipping, vaccinations, feed etc.

Awwwwwwwww....what a nice group and how sad what happened.

I also had losses from neighbor's dogs year's ago. Took them to local city court and they were fined and got rid of the dogs. I should have asked for compensation! but was trying to be a good neighbor. Now they have another dog.

And now my chicken houses are like Ft. Knox!!
