Her post says she is from CT. Not sure which one but, if it borders the MA line then it's probably legal in those towns to own Peafowl. Most bordering towns are very rural. But, I'm not really sure. I hope she gets her birds back. It sounds like the Dog Catcher is trying to pull authority rank/power trip etc....

Massachusetts defines Pavo cristatus (blue, or Indian peafowl) as domestic, and exempts it from requiring a permit. Pavo muticus (green peafowl) is not listed as exempt.

Go to the local TV station or newspaper, they love stuff like this and will embarrass the dog control officer into returning them.

i talked to everyone and their brother today..now she knows she is wrong & is going to go any route she can go to keep my birds. she is having some inspector come to my farm next..lol.. all theyre going to find is clean happy healthy birds. i was told not to allow her on my property..she is not the dudley dog officer..the dudley doesnt seem to want anything to do with this, ive already spoken to him.

this lady thinks i need detailed paperwork for every single bird i own ..i got those peas in an egg carton ..no paperwork there lol same with most of my birds..in an egg carton ..hatched here. she is making trouble for no reason.

She has no place in keeping your peafowls, one, the rules in mass do not apply on the rules in CT in poultry waterfowl or peafowl unless it is a federal law. She is out of her juridiction, Get your dog offer involved or better yet your AG depertment , they can she d a hole lot of light on the dog officer in mass.

Call your Ag depertment. The dog officer has no right to send any one to your house, she is not in her town. She would have to go through the offical of your own town first.

I hate people like that!!! if you can afford it , I would sue her for what ever I could and make HER life miserable. Dam!!! this kind of CRAP gets my goat!!!

I understand what you are trying to say but, if she is a legal CT resident and she is legal to own those birds in MA. I think her local CT laws would be what is right. I understand that they were found in MA but, the MA dog animal control officer knowing that they are hers should release them to her local CT animal control officer. This way the CT animal control officer is well aware of the CT Regulations of that town. I just hope all in all she gets her birds back and maybe going to the press would help like Woodmort said. Good luck!!

let alone she is not even from your state, keep all records if on paper or e-mail about her haveing YOUR birds and NOT releaseing them to you.

Actually, we do NOT know that her birds were found in Mass.; it was implied in post #5, and the suggestion that she might be in a border town was mentioned in #8. My posts were to show that it is not illegal in either location.

IFF it were illegal to possess them without a license in the state they were found, but not where they originated, then I do see some likelihood of red tape to get them returned, but ultimately, I would expect to see them returned.

HOWEVER, possession is allowed in BOTH places, so there is absolutely no authority for her to keep them. And if both the locations from where they were lost and also where found are in the same state, there is not any reason for any sort of redtape paperwork. Unless the OP resides in an area that is under the jurisdiction of this Animal Control Officer (and from all the posts is sounds as if she DOES NOT, then there is absolutely NO authority for her to initiate an inspection. Something does not smell right. I think she suspects something entirely diferent than what she has stated, and think the OP needs to be concerned about WHAT she is looking for. Getting her own Animal Control officers and police involved in protecting her rights seems like an important step. I would also be concerned over the welfare of the birds in her care.
