and bantams only count as 1/2 a chicken. hope my husband buys this logic when our 30 chicken surprise (to him at least) show up in the mail this week!!

so, 7 pullets in the coop + 4 pullets in the brooder -2 free pullets + 4 silkies + 30 bantams (1/2 of which will be roosters) = 26 chickens minus the roosters eventually. Perfectly reasonable flock!

I can quit any time I want. really, I can.

I started out this spring only going to get a couple more Americauna (sp) hens and a rooster to go with my two hens I have now. I wasn't going to go over 7 chickens total. I have 25 day old chicks coming in the mail tommorrow and my aunt is giving me all her chicks that hatch out in a couple of weeks, her hen is sitting on fifteen eggs. So I think I am a little bit over my limit but that just means I get to build a new coop and when that is done there will be room for a couple more!

After reading all of this I'm kinda glad that I live in a city that puts a limit of ten on chickens.

Yeah, I'll be over that when the eggs under my broody hatch, and there will be some meaties living here for a very short time this fall........but the limit of ten is at least keeping me under 20!

I love this.... I started with three but the dog next door got in to our property so we were back to one which quickly turned into 13 (I just had to put 12 eggs under her). then I saw a 'free to good home' add, 3 more and then bought a few more......took us to 19 all within a year. It's on the verge of winter now but I could not help incubate a few eggs but only got 2 chicks. So the I just had to buy them some playmates from the hatchery, came home with 10. They are nearly 6 weeks old and 7 of them will be sold......Hubby is cracking a mental:barnie I have not told him yet that the little silkie I got for free is now sitting on 8 eggs LOL:oops:

started out with 2 little fluffy butt silkies in September of last year.

Now have 18 adult hens and 10 babies and 3 teenagers.

Total 31

....and I can't wait until October ( maybe spring ) when I can get my hands on some Lavender Orhpingtons
