We are new to chickens with 16 wk olds. Today, my husband said that the only Roo we have (BO) was mating with another (BO), at least that is what he thought. None of the chicks (Isa Ben, BO, BR or EE) have given any eggs as of yet. Tonight we went out there and as soon as we reached the run door (in front of us) the Roo started again on a Isa Brn. She was squawking for a minute or so and then off both went running.

I thought I read on here (sorry, tried to find it) that you should not allow this to happen in front of us as this is telling us that "HE" is above us in rank. Can someone enlighten me on this. To date he has given us no problems whatsoever. We have worked on the run with all 20 running around us and he has never shown any interest in us.

Also, does this mean that the couple of chicks are ready to start laying eggs?

I haven't experienced this yet, but I have read that some suggest you should NOT let the roo mate in front of you. This tells him that YOU are #1 roo.

Hmmmm, my leghorn rooster had started romancing my hens the past three weeks or so when were there, when were not there. It doesn't seem to matter much to him but I haven't noticed any aggression towards me or any one else.
