May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Thanks for sharing your experience! I will be watching the nail polished egg closely, but am not expecting success. I probably won't try it again...unless by some miracle it works šŸ˜‚.

I wax patched a cracked egg in a hatch a long egg. I sprayed the egg with hydrogen peroxide, then let it dry, then waxed the crack. It hatched without any assistance. I have another egg that has a small crack in it that I have done the same with and will be setting tomorrow.

Ooo, I'll be excited to see how this waxed egg does!

I just candled all of my hatchery eggs except the ones under Miss Broody Judy. Development in all of them -including the nail polish egg - except for two questionable eggs. It's only D3!

Narragansett turkey eggs will be set tomorrow after the bator warms up.

Had my son fooled thinking we were picking up broken concrete from two hours away. We’ve been filling in a soggy road through our wetlands to get to the other side of the property. He said ā€œMom, this is dumb. Why are we driving for hours to get broken concrete? Can’t we get some closer to home?ā€ Hehe

Might be forced to throw some of our chickens eggs in there... Has anyone been successful at hatching a pullets first week or so of eggs she’s laid? They’re fertile but itty bitty.

Hi y'all! I picked up 24 Easter eggers eggs. Two days apart from eachother. So I got two different incubatora. Im brand new to this! Its exciting for my kids and I do to together with all this dang covid happening and us being stuck at home. I open the barnyard chicken app more than I do Facebook now šŸ˜ I enjoy reading posts and learning new things everyday! Here's a pic of the eggs I got the other day!! And also a picture of some baby chicks that the guy hatched from the same hens less than a week ago!!View attachment 2099544View attachment 2099560

BYC is so much better than Facebook! I find myself checking here every break I get...Facebook, maybe once every 2-3 days. Lol!

We are the same except we hate every aspect of processing. Killing, plucking...all of it. There is a processor 30min from us as well, so I told him we can just grow out all the roosters and then take a batch in. With my luck we will end up with 9 roosters from our 10 set eggs!
We used to have a butcher nearby who would process the chickens for us, so we always went there. But then we moved to a rural area & have had to do it ourselves twice now. So much work! I think part of it is that we don't have the right equipment. It takes us about 2 hours per chicken. But I do enjoy the chicken soup.

Howdy everyone! I've got 6 Khaki Campbells in my incubator, set to hatch on Mother's Day :love I was actually out to pick up some chicken eggs (we have a small flock of 5 hens) and by a misunderstanding I ended up with duck eggs, haha! It was quite the surprise when I got home and opened the carton. We have never hatched ducks so this should be fun. We've got our duckling brooder ready to go and are starting on the duck run shortly. Woohoo!

All 6 are developing- I am hoping my hatch rate is just as good. I am using a Brinsea Mini Advanced and have always had good luck with it.

I candled my Welsh Harlequin eggs which will be due to hatch around May 4th. Being as I had them in the fridge for a short time before setting in the incubator because these eggs weren't planned originally. All 12 eggs I set are fertile and have a nice active duckling baby growing inside. Was very surprised as my first set of fridge eggs had several clears going on and two very early quiters.
