May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

My broody has failed as a carer. I took the eggs away from her about a week ago and finished incubating them inside (too much fighting between hens for the best nest box). She had decoys and was faithfully sitting on them. I've tried introducing a couple of chicks to broody, but she's not having any of it. I guess I'm going to raise these babies too. I already have one brooder with two week olds and now another brooder for the new ones. The last chick has pipped and his siblings are awaiting his arrival. What a fun hatch along its been!
Well at least you have tried

Did you try to sneak the babies under her wings after she was settled at night? Most of my broody hens won't accept chicks in broad daylight if you plop them in front of the hen.

Some update pictures. The 5 Blue and Splash Marans and the 3 Japanese Bantam/True Blue crosses. The Japanese Blues all appear have those adorable stubby legs and I'm in love!

I have eggs I set on late Friday, so they are on day 4.5 I have eggs from 3 sources. Below we have a blue egg from North Carolina, they seem to be doing ok, I have had a few with saddles, but I kept them up right, and the lose air cells are solid now.
