MAY HATCH-A-LONG come join in

Well I have 3 olive eggers out of the shell now and a couple of new pips. The best news though is that the cochin that pipped on the bottom early this morning just started zipping!

Why is it that my first chicks are already dry and looking beautiful, but all the chicks after them (including those born only an hour later...around 8:30ish am) still look half wet? I also have an egg that zipped half way, then stopped. I had to run to the store when he started about an hour or more ago and now come home to find it exactly how I left him and no movement. He's most likely dead.

There has been no action in my bator for over an hour.

My temps have been great up until today (day 15). My temps have been between 99 and 101, but I just checked and see the temp going from 99.3 to 102. It was really warm out today so maybe that's why? I'm wondering if because the chicks are getting bigger the temp goes up? Should I lower the temp or leave it alone?

Don't really have an answer for you...I'm new too and this was my first hatch....but I went through the same thing on day 15. I have mine in a Genesis 1588 which I was told was really good at holding the temp steady. It was very steady at 99.5-101 until day 15. Then it spiked up to 102 and I was going nuts. It never went above 102 though. I'm not sure if it gave me any problems yet because we're still hatching over here.

I know you'll get good advice here from people here with more experience. Just wanted to let you know it happened to me too.

Did your temps continue to go up to 102 or did it go back down again?

The egg I had that was half way zipped and stopped is now showing some movements in there. Should I help it out or let nature takes it's course? I'm wondering if maybe he took too long and now the membrane is dry.

It stayed at 102 all day. I then got a big book and put it under the bator to lift it making sure all of the bottom holes were getting a good clear path for air and took the plug off. I'm not sure if that helped because it honestly stayed at 102 until the temp dropped outside that night. Then it went to 100 where it is now. I'm on day 20.

Now my house doesn't have A/C and it was real hot that day, so I don't know if that played a big part in it.
