May hatch-a-long

so my two EE chicks are doing very good and ive been giving them some outside time and im going to start getting the chickens use to them so maybe they will like them more when it gets time to put them outside

Oh great... now I have 2 broodies and i don't want anymore chicks... and becuase the brooder where fighting over the nest along with others wanting to lay eggs someone broke one of the eggs so now there are 5.... So i have seperated the broodies but 1 still in the main coop and 1 I the mini pen, which also means I can't move the 4week chicks to the mini pen yet...

Oh the joys... But the all chicks are doing well

Ok so I put the longer sitting broody in the mini pen with fake eggs and gave the new broody hen the setting eggs. Basicly each only has to sit half time. Then when it got dark I put 2 of my hatched chicks from last week under the broody and she seems to have accepted them. So with any luck I can get all 8 chicks under her over the next few days and then i just have the 6- 4 week chicks still in the garage until the mini pen is free again... Oh this is going to be stressful. The hatched chicks and the broody eggs are only going to be 2 wks apart in age so I'm hoping that doesn't cuase issues with the mama's. My goal is to get the chicks and the first mama settled and moved back to the main coop in enough time to move the new mom and the eggs to the mini pen so they can get their strength before joining the flock. Then hopefully, and I know they will be about 6weeks old at this point, but once i get the second mana back in the coop I need to move the 4week chicks out to the mini pen to integrate with the flock... I guess the only good thing is the mini pen stays in the run all the time so is just a fixture there that all the chickens know... I swear no more chickens for now.

Did I mentionnn then after fair in late July I have to clean out the goat pens to move all the new cockerels over there until rehoming or processing. I think i should have stopped after the first incubation.

Hi, I put some eggs in an incubator on May 6th.

Several are dark shell so I couldn't really see anything when I candled tonight.
I just wanted to let everyone know everything seems to be going all right.

I did get these pictures last night. One is candled and the other is in normal lighting. They are of the same egg.

The egg is from a Welsummer so egg color and speckles are both darker than they seem. Although not as dark or speckles as closely spaced as the others.

Here is another set of two pictures, same situation...colors darker than the normal lighting shows and both pictures of the same egg.

Evidently there was just enough movement in another egg to overbalance it when I tried to get a picture.

Hoping and praying for a successful hatch of healthy chicks.

Just for fun here is a picture of all the eggs.

That looks like a good mix of eggs, what breeds do you have? I'm getting mostly white/cream eggs from my flock at the moment so I think I might try to hatch some cream legbars and marans at some point this year.

I checked under my broody tonight when I closed up the coop. Sigh. End of day 21 and not a pip that I can see. Maybe tomorrow?!
Don't give up. My last broody went to day 26 before hatch. And my one sitting now is on day 24. I candled 1 of 3 this morning and we have internal pip. Day 24!!!
