May hatch-a-long

The 3 eggs I put under my broody hatched 10 hatched so far in my bator 4 have pipped and 1.....?. So I put 4 chicks under my broody I'll know how it is going in the morning.

She hatched!!! The little chick I jumped the gun and helped with a safety hole hatched just now! Pretty blue based silkie!! Mom is blue cream (I think that's her color). Dad is blue.

Oh these faces!! & The silver color! This will be fun determining color and feather type as mom is Frizzle.

Wow! You guys won't believe this. Due to Girl Scout logistics (apparently you can't pile kids in a car and transport without heeps of paperwork and vetting) I brought the incubator to tonight's meeting. Just waited till the last minute, added towels for padding around the eggs, wrapped it in a towel, short car ride (8 minutes away), and plugged it in when we got there.

Meeting goes from 4-5:30. At 4:45 one starts to zip! Everyone gathered around excitedly. It hatched about 5:15. How amazing is that?! Exactly what I'd hoped for. How often does that happen? I'd placed all the pipped eggs together when I added the towels. They didn't seem to be doing much. I thought we were out of luck. But this little guy decided to be a rockstar and made an appearance right on time.

Now all the pressure is off and I can relax and enjoy the hatch

Went to the city today. 2 eggs had pips when we left... one of which is the egg that pipped first (I think it's DIS).

Came home to 2 already dried out chicks. So 1 egg hadn't even pipped yet when we left.

I think 3 is all that I'm going to get out of the 6 that went into lockdown. I'll wait another day and see what happens.
