May Hatch-a-Long!

Pics
I agree, thinking it's just sleepy still. Is it more awake yet?
It stayed like that most of the day and a couple hours before I left the other had completely hatched and dried so I added it to the brooder. The first one immediately perked up and started walking around. Made me feel a whole lot better.
I left them at work but am now feeling that it would probably be better to bring them home and add them to the big brooder with the chicks that came from McMurray today. I may bring them home tomorrow. After seeing the chicks in the big brooder, I am seeing the mini brooder at work as more of a temporary thing.
I have had 2 of 24 hatch at work and am not holding my breath that any more will hatch as I have seen no more pips. I am not entirely disappointed though, I am actually excited that I had any hatch at all with it being my first time and all.
Here are pics of the McMurray chicks in the big brooder.

Today has been so exciting!

I had Speckled Sussex (shipped Ebay eggs) hatch on day 18 last month.
I am sooo bummed now though- I candled last night (day 16) and had to toss 12 eggs (out of 18) due to them being all light inside and air sacs loose and broken. I tried not to bother them until then....they were shipped and sat for 24 hours, didn't turn for another day...temps and humidity have been spot on what I always have/use. I think USPS X-Rayed the box again or tossed it around. (This is the 2nd box of eggs I bought from the seller.) I had 1 chick hatch for the Easter HAL (out of 11) and now have 3 normal looking ones and 3 probably clear, but i left them since they looked iffy....I just want some Silver Birchn Marans. Now I'll look for chicks or grown birds, or egg nearby to pick up.

Day 18 - was your temperature a bit high? Did they have yolks completely absorbed? That's amazing!

I'm sorry about your eggs. None of my 12 shipped FBCM looked good either, and there are none available in my area. I also set big end up in a carton for over 24 hours, didn't turn them for nearly 2 days...but still I have weird air cells and looks like no development. You did the right thing in trying to help the air cells heal though!

I believe you were hatching on the same day as me. Our Marans are not doing well

Do you have anything else in the incubator? Maybe if you have 3 Marans hatch, you will get at least a pair...

I noticed candling today that a Silkie appeared to be pecking at the air cell. It's only Day 17. I wonder if it actually was trying to internally pip. Anyway, the incubator is 'permanently' closed now for the hatch.

There are no Silver Birchen Marans that I can find near me either...I am really hoping that I get a pair from the few who may hatch. As far as the SS chicks- they acted like they were on speed...no signs of yolk, no helping needed at all and from ext pip to hatched out was like 15-20 min for some of them. They were amazing! I don't have anything else in my bator now- just 6 SBM eggs. I will take the turner out tomorrow...and see what happens...Good Luck to you. Be sure to post pics once they do hatch. I will too.

this morning my broody cochin hen had three babies with a 4th pipping and when i got home this evening she had 6 babies so three more had hatched while i was gone. their such adorable chicks...their all serama/duccle crosses and that cross is proving to be the most adorable of chicks.

2 chicks are chipmunks, 2 are yellow puffs, 1 is solid black with a tiny bit of yellow on it chest and 1 is black and white. there are still three eggs left so we'll see if Trouble(the hen) ends up with anymore babies

Aww, good to see good news. Nice big brooder. Your first hatch? You must be pretty happy for sure. Congrats. :)

I was looking at Speckled Sussex on e-bay today. I am really thinking I will get some. Hope it isn't from the same person! :/ You never know though. I have more than a few times now, gotten more eggs from a person, that I had only one egg hatch, next ones sent..21 out of 32! That was actually my last silkie hatch. Yeah, clears from the beginning..is happening to me with my little banatam cochins. I only have two left! Hoping they hang on. Crossies.
Sorry about your low rate...hopefully the rest will hatch!

day 18 - lockdown
this is incubator #1, set 41, removed 6 clears = 35 to lockdown

some already had a big dip in the air cell... some air cells were kinda small still. most of the weight loss was perfect, a few were over projected weightloss so will be interested to see what happens.

I added water to the center well and have it up to 60% now... I cannot wait!! no wiggling yet...

question: in my incubator #2, I have been hand-turning with x's and o's laying on their sides. now, my auto-turner is freed up. they are on day 11. can I put them in an auto turner halfway thru or should I keep hand turning?

for anyone interested lol... here are the day 0 and day 18 weights.. I also have data for d7 and d14, but this is the simplified version.

anyone want to make it into a cool graph chart for me?

Cynthia, the SS Ebay eggs did great! 9 easily hatched gangbuster chicks out of 12 eggs. I got lucky with them
The ones I am having trouble with are the Maran ones...and the seller is being very helpful. I'm just unlucky with them I guess.
Good Luck with your 2 eggs...
