My first hatch in a homemade cooler
12/14 hatched
Not counting 4 clear
Two did not pip. Almost day 22. Candled. I see no movement. The silkie looks like blood inside maybe.
I am so proud of how well it went!
5 easter eggers
7 silkies

Today is day 21 of my very first hatch and we have no pips yet but I do see eggs move now and then.....but that's been the case since lock down on day 18.

I have read everything I could about incubation and now I am going crazy imagining no pips and late death, drownings, shrink wrapping, and all kinds of deformities

It's gonna be a long weekend

Well today is day 20 for bator #2 and I have one out already! I see quite a few more pips too. Bator #1 yielded 8 chicks, but one of them has something going on with her legs. After she dries off more I'm going to make her some hobbles and shoes and see if it'll help. Luckily my buyer is OK with getting half now and half later.

All 7 of the other fuzzy butts are quite active and jumping into the water bowl and eating and pecking each others feet or tails. They are so cute to watch.

I had my one duck I had to assist on yesterday and I'm currently waiting on #2 to hatch. It has pipped though. Duck #1 is doing quite well and I'm afraid she or he might end up being a pet :)

Thank you Cynthia! You and Wishapup helped keep me calm! I am so grateful for your experience with hatching and sharing it with me.
I am definately going to hatch again! I want some turkey eggs now

I have a question. I know everyone counts days a little differently. I set my eggs on April 30th at about 1:30 in the afternoon. When should I put them on lockdown. Some of the eggs are "bantam" Polish, but they come from pretty large bantams. The majority the eggs in the incubator are standard size eggs with a few large and a few small. None of them are tiny by any means and I don't really anticipate any to hatch very early.

The 18th. You start counting the day AFTER you set the eggs, count 18 days. Then of course, hatch day should be on the 21st. If you had set them on the 29th, it would be the 17th. :) Or, if you had set them on the 1st, you would lock down on the 19th. You get the picture.

I actually have some due to go into lock down the same day, as I also set on the 30th. :) Yep..tomorrow.

Thanks! That's how I was counting. But, of course when it starts getting close to hatch I start second guessing everything lol.

Worst hatch ever. 1 hatched out of 12 eggs. The sad part? Every single egg that died had a fully developed chick. One was even moving but died even with no veins or yolk on the outside.

Now I have a broody I don't know what to do with. I'm afraid to give her Copper (only surviving chick) as he was the first chick I have ever hatched and the fact he's the only chick. I don't have any eggs to give Luna, the broody anyways. So she will be sitting for a while I guess.

Here's my baby Copper. RSL x EE? cross. Has the cute poofy cheeks and really stubby legs. He's very soft. Has ginger chipmunk stripes on his back and his wings are a tinted white color :).
