May Hatch-a-Long!

I wasn't sure if I was going to be a part of the May hatch along or not, but it looks like I'll be speaking in at the end of May. I just ordered a dozen LP Marans eggs and will be getting a dozen from some other lines. I am currently hatching my first set ever (7 hatched, 3 currently pipped, 6 waiting!) so it'll be interesting to go on to such difficult eggs to candle.

Well I didn't start out to be part of the hatch-a-long but my eggs are pipping. so hatch day is today and tomorrow. Didn't quite make it to Cinco de Mayo. these are 12 Light Sussex and 12 crossbred Birds which are Light Sussex over Cuckoo Marans hens. Sold all the crossbred chicks before they were hatched to little boy whose mom is getting him some chicks . so cute.
then on Wednesday 18 more Light Sussex eggs go in. I guess they'll be part of the May hatch-a-long.
Best,
Karen in Ligonier PA

Just put my eggs in incubator. I'm doing backyard mix I have mixed chickens and a few RIRs, white leghorns and one black sex link with a leghorn rooster and a Easter egger rooster so no telling what they will look like. Most of my eggs are blue and green. But I did put in a few brown ones. Good luck everyone!

Sounds like my coop

Received my shipped eggs today. Great packaging and got 3 mystery eggs... The problem, my broody can likely only sit on 6-8... I guess it's time to make the incubator purchase. Need something affordable and still decent. A good balance.

I candled a few of my silky eggs last night & a lot of them have some really wobbly air cells, I'm keeping my humidity low & have them in a egg carton, I can see that their developing, so thinking about cutting back to turning those just once a day for a few days. Do you think that will hurt anything? On a totally different note, I am going in the morning to look at some araucanas, grown ones, hoping to get a roo & a few good hens. I'm so excited but trying not to get my hopes up.

What day are you?

Day 6 I believe. I set them on Tuesday night & im counting the 1st night as 0, is that right?
Whatever time at night you set them is when the day turns (example, if you set them at 10pm on Tuesday night, it would become day 1 at 10pm Wednesday night).

I have slightly raised the humidity to deal with my wonky air cells this time. BUT, this thread is by far the most helpful I've read:

Also, the really experienced hatchers are here to help---trust me, I've asked a 2 am question and gotten answers super fast!!:
