May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Picked up 29 eggs at a chicken exchange last week, will be candling tonight! Sure hope they are developing, I went all out with the fancy eggs; some Cream Legbars, Blue Barnevelders, Swedish flower hens, Olive eggers, and of course, some mystery eggs. Everyone needs a few mystery eggs to add to the mix! Hatch day should be 5/19 if everything goes right.
welcome to the thread happy hatching

Woohoo! 3 more hatched, now I am up to 23 out including the nicest looking blue eggs!
Plus I see another zipped, and many more pips.
I think everyone should do a batch of eggs that have not been shipped now and then, just to build up your confidence again.
I have been doing everything the same, and with shipped eggs I was getting some horrid hatch percentages.
Now these non shipped eggs are already up to 54%, and they are not due to start hatching until tomorrow!
I am having fun again.

We are finishing our hatching out chicks tomorrow. We set 21 and took out 1 because it was not developing. We had two types, Rhodebars and Buff Orpingtons. The Rhodebars were puchased at a local farm but the Buffs were mailed and they were a hot mess when we received them. Not only did we get broken eggs (bad packaging) but the air sacs were pretty wonky. So far we have over 60% success with Rhodebars and 0% success on the Buff Orpingtons. The person we purchased the the Buffs from has agreed to at least provide us replacement of the broken eggs. I am now in search of Welsummers and/or Wheaton Americauna hatching eggs so we can set a new batch by mid-month.

That is SO true. Hatching shipped eggs should be looked at totally different than local eggs. When I hatch shipped eggs I have zero expectations, so if even one hatches I'm thrilled! The vast majority of my eggs are local this time, so I'm hoping it goes well :)

Up to 25 now, so I better go to bed!
Sure curious to see what this is going to be, it came out of a blue egg.

And this one feather legged beaut.

OK, now I promise to quit flooding this thread with pics.

Did my first major egg cull tonight in Incubator 2. I'm officially DONE with shipped eggs...or at least shipped bantam eggs. Down to 4/14 of my shipped bantam BRs, and 8/12 of the local seramas. Had a few blood rings, but the vast majority was no development. Of the BBRs developing only 1 has a stable air cell even after not being turned for 5 days. Oh well...we'll see what happens.

Incubator 1 gets weighed and candled tomorrow :)
