May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Day 8 here... woot woot!!! ButI I have a question. I candled last night and I suspect a couple of the eggs may have blood rings. My question is... if I just suspect a blood ring should I take them out immediately or can I wait a couple more days and candle again to see if they are more clear then?

I never toss until day 14 at the earliest. I like to give it every chance I can before I accept that it's no good.

Totally had a egg blow up in the bator yesterday. Barf! Luckily I have two incubators and was able to swap out bottom trays but I still had to wipe eggs and quickly clean the tip and turner. What a pain!!

Keep an eye on those eggs. Exploded eggs tend to kill all the other developing embryos due to bacterial contamination. This is why I toss eggs as soon as I know they are quitters.

Make sure to candle in a few days to see if they're ok

I candled in the am yesterday. About 8 hours before the explosion. I had a hard time seeing any air cells (only saw 2 out of 12) and no veining at all. I attributed it to being 5:30 in the am, sun coming up and me not having enough coffee. Im hopping that the shells are just dark and to thick to see inside with my lil mag light. The eggs were air-shipped. . Ill candle in another day or two. Today is day 8.

I candled tonight and I have 4 out of 7 fertile!!!! Wohoooo I am so excited, this is my first incubation of shipped eggs. I did everything I knew to do. Now to get them all the way to hatch! By the way, they are frizzle polish eggs!

I have frizzle turkens coming this week! Now I have to decide if I can handle a staged hatch, or if I want to go pick up a cheaper sale bator for hatching the eggs that are already at day 7. I candled those. I set 18. 13 super blue layers and 5 of my mutts. 1 clear out of the shipped eggs and 1 clear from my mutts.

I moved my 5 week old chicks out to the coop today inside a big brooder box. I also popped in our two new ducklings. I keep checking to see that they are all fine, but the ducks are twice the size of the chicks so I think we are good. Now that the rest of the flock are inside I have got to go check to be sure the big ladies and my ornery roo are leaving them alone. My roo is on a mission to be stew today. (First he flogged my daughter, then my mom, then the hubs who was bringing out scraps in a big metal dish. )

Today is day 11!!!! Wow, it seems to be flying by! I decided to candle my possible blood ring eggs last Friday. Four of them didn't have any veining other than the ring. So they came right out. Opened them up and they were completely scrambled. So I'm confident I made the right decision and glad I got them out of the bator before the exploded. The 5th eggs was my biggest question as it was a Wheaten Maran with a super dark shell. I candled it again and it hadn't developed any more than I saw a couple days before. So I decided to open it up. It definitely had a blood ring, but this one had actually started developing. It probably died around day 5-7. As confident as I was before opening it up, seeing that little embryo made me question big time if I made the right decision

I don't remember if I wrote this earlier... but when I candled the eggs I also weighed the eggs. They're all looking good but noticed, with my current humidity target of 30-35%, they're on track to lose too much by hatch day. So I up'ed the humidity to 35-40% and will check again on Thursday!

I had 8 in the incubator and 5 outside with a broody I candled them at day 7 and only 1 was developing all the other 7 were infertile I'm not going to candle the ones under the bloody in case this upsets her at the minute today is day 10 only 11 more days to go so excited as my last hatch failed out of 14 got 0

What makes an egg blow up in an incubator? Just being not fertilized and heating up?
