May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Lockdown starts tomorrow. I have 16 that have made it so far, with 4 more that are extremely iffy. 1 blue orp, 3 wheaten ameraucanas, 5 Swedish flowers and 7 lemon cuckoo orps. The iffies are 3 wheaten amer, and 1 blue orp. Tossed 7 today that looked to be scrambled. 6 were scrambled and 1 was an early quitter.

Hoping for a few fuzzy butts on Thursday. Not that I need more, that's for dang sure!

Is there anyone here who actually NEEDS anymore??? LOL

I started with 16 eggs. 4 of my own have all hatched yesterday. 12 I brought and only 4 developed, 2 made it to lockdown and 1 has hatched. It doesn't look so good. It appears to have a sore on its back, its a smallish area that seems white-ish and gross. I'm not sure what's going on. I am very disappointed in the eggs I brought and really wanted at least one to make it. I'm not so sure this one will :-(

Any ideas? Should I put something on it like betadine or something?

I am still worried about the little thing. It still can't walk. It's been hatched for a few hours but can't seem to straighten out its legs, it just rolls around. How long do you give chicks to come good?

Thank you to those that responded. I appreciate it.
My best guess is bacteria................The first 11 are fine.........
Then I had a single that died .Then the next four.............
Heart breaking really. lost the next one making 6 and the two pipped I do not think are going to make it out.
June is looking very appealing............
This was a tough learning curve..................

My last hatch, only 1 hatched, it was 8 or 9 hrs before it could walk. Its a beautiful chick now!
I don't know of any specific time for recovery........
Sometimes quite awhile. Think about the energy expended for the little one to just get out of the egg.
I'm sure it is fine..........and in the morning will probably be up and looking at you ...........

Bacteria can explode in a few hours in the right temperature and moisture.

Trust me, when they do, it is a mess. I have never had a rotten egg in an incubator until this present hatch. I started with 110 shipped coturnix quail eggs. They were the best packed eggs I have ever gotten. Started them on the 8th. By about the 12th my incubator room stunk to high heaven, just 4 days in I had a leaker. took that turner tray out, soaked it in hilex, and shifted those eggs to a remaining tray. Figured I had it under control. I figured wrong! Tonight, day 11, I went into the room and once again it stunk bad. 2 more rotten eggs seeping. Did a candling, and now I am left with 53 developing lively eggs, with two more turner racks in the hilex soak

Sure can't wait, 7 more weeks and I should be setting my own quail eggs in the incubator!

I have 8 baby chicks out of the 24 eggs I started with this last batch. Honestly there were four more, I had to leave yesterday there were 4 babies and I came home and they had overheated expired in the brooder... I am so mad at myself for screwing up. eggtopsied the unhatched ones and found some quitters but some fully formed that died in shell before internal pips. This month has been very hard with my bad luck with eggs/chicks... I am cleaning and storing the incubator indefinately today.
