May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Thats ok on the lack of buffs. Might turn out anyway. If not I have +3 SLC to breed back lol. Feather feat was the main idea. Buffs were just for show to me. ANother SL popped and then another egg, Pretty sure mama is BAxWLH So Austra-white? Anyway I had an extra black chick last hatch. 1 Just zipped and he/she black. So I am wondering if it could be SL fatcor or just that the black overiding the 50% white dominance blood. I know G2 sexlink is spose to be completely unreliable but it seems 2/3 are white (Of those that hatched or pip death) Have to watch the whites. And THAT black see who sings and who sits. Maybe prolly nothing worth interest but I wanna see for myself. The 1st black from the MD hatch is lost with all the other BA/BSL so its a IDK. This 1 I AM tagging. LOL.
Still all kinds of pips rolls and chirping, from both hatchers. So far just 1 pip death. And I thought (Again and was proven wrong) I was scrapping the whole deal. Rules Scmules

. Whatever it is I guess it works. Maybe I have a guardian chicken somewhere. And hopefully they don't make a cream for feterit.
i have two buffs and two white feather legs i am not big on feather leg birds i like clean yellow or black legs i just hatched these for somthing to hatch i have 9 more next week my mother inlaw has a trio so they were available i will send them over to her in a few days after i hatch out the others but i do have some awesome Brahmas set the parent stock was superb now these sparked my interest one of the dark roos he was breeding had to go over 15 lbs and the lights had great color and perfect hackle collars really nice i have 24 set

Here Dolfi the air cell graphic i promised you hope this helps you and any body else that needs it,,,,credit to who ever i tagged it from who ever you are ,,,lol

*Update*

I'm up to three pips now (one on the wrong side of the egg), another is internally pipped and pecking away at the shell, and it looks like I might have another pipping at the wrong end.

Go Duckies.
I posted on wrong thread LOL but heres the jest.

Confusing myself counting. Have 4 left in the BSL/ Austrawhite hatcher. 3 whites and 1 brown. And 1 of each pipping. Only lost 1 so far from the drowning. A bunch more in the other bator. Assisted a couple in pipping. Had broke membrane and got rolled. Made sure breath holes were established waiting on going farther because of last hatch yolk dilema. Feeling great about this as I've said another scrap turned gold.
So count I just took I think are (Don't quote me) 6 BA, 7 SL (4 male, 3 females) 2 Austrawhites (1 is black LOL) and 3 CochinxBuffs. I gotta count eggs in bator for lockdown now. I forgot to write em down LOL

UPDATE. All eggs except 2 whites have pipped. Most extrernal. couple internals. Hoping just waiting for grand entrances. If not its still great. If no more pip deaths it would be around 90% roughly hatch rate. Believe I FORGOT to count eggs. LOL its around 30 at lockdown. Couple I rolled and assisted had some shrinkage so prolly not all make it. But we can hope.

Well, got the third chick safe and sound. Thank you Oesdog!!! I ended up waiting over 24 hours, and the peeps were getting fainter and fewer, so I candled and made a little pip into the air cell right next to the beak. Sure enough, there was its little beak which had broken through to the air cell in a normal internal pip. The interior membrane was clear around the beak, but white and contracted back from the shell tight around the chick everywhere else. Not sure why this one shrink-wrapped when the others were fine, but there it was. Chick seemed to revive a little with access to room air, and I could still see some good sized veins in the membrane, so I left well enough alone. About 4 hours later, no progress had been made, so I followed some advice Oes linked me to and zipped the end. Again, could see some veins, so I let another 4 hours go by. Checked tonight to find the chick struggling like mad inside the shrink wrap. It had destroyed the shell within reach of it's beak, but could not rotate at all it was so tight in the membrane. Good news was that the veins had dried up, so I proceeded to carefully peel membrane away until it pried itself out of the shell. There was a tiny bit of bleeding from the umbilicus, but otherwise seemed completely unphased. Now it is resting in the incubator, and I will move it to the brooder tomorrow. whew!!!
I am afraid that even though I opened in a humid room, I caused the shrink-wrap when I removed the first 2 chicks. I think from now on I will use my hovabator as a hatcher, because although the Brinsea rocked for the incubation, it is just too small for the new chicks. They couldn't even stand up due to the low ceiling in it. Then I shouldn't need to open until hatch is complete. Lesson learned!
No signs of life from the remaining 2 eggs, but can't hurt to let them go another day or two.
I will post picks tomorrow when s/he is fluffed (hoping it's a she!). Too tired tonight!

Ok so my FF birds are not just what I thought. Forgot I was saving eggs for THIS batch from SLC pen. And for that week he had BO, Prod Red and guess a BSL. Because on closer inspection I notice this little black FF baby. She was only in pen 2 days and was NOT having it. She wanted her big rooster. But somehow some way I got at least 1 of her eggs in the bator. NowI gotta check ALL the black babies in Brooder 2 for more FF. SIGH!

Found another pip death, thats 2. Still going good on all other pippers. Still 2 whites not showing activity.

... last BSL just kicked out. Badly absorbed egg sac though. Not sur she'll make it. Gonna stay AWAY and hope she absorbs good. Time for bed and check back in the AM.

Glad you got the baby out. Honestly that was quite a long time to wait before helping. We learned this the hard way as we lost a really loud lively chick who pipped in the night but was dead in the morning just a few hours later. It was very upsetting as we could have helped if we had known what to do at the time.. We have never had any chick hatch itself in this house! Ended up shrink wrapping a few years back killed 6 and two were helped out then. This time the wee one had its leg stuck round its head! So never had a "real hatch" here. and the rest were dead in the shell. So more than happy to help and rescue - I don't see the point in getting to that stage and then refussing to intervine when clearly you can get lovely healthy chicks from problematic trumatic hatchings. Though some folk don't believe in intervention. If I didn;t I would never have had any live chicks and doubt if I would ever try again. I am so glad it worked and your wee one is out safe into the world!
