May trade for a new horse thoughts please?

Here's a few ads from my side of the mountains:

Cayenne is a gorgeous, 11 year old, 16 hand, bay, Mustang gelding. He is very eager to please and loves to be ridden. Cayenne has had 60 days professional training and has been extensively used for trail riding. He has very smooth gaits and never misses a step. His size and stregnth make him the ideal horse for a rider of any size. For reference, the man in the photo is six foot three. Intermediate rider recommended. Please call 360-520-4451 if interested.

Stunning
, uniquely colored and statuesque gelding. Champagne Renegade is a solid, stout boy that is 15.1 hands and 7 years old. He is absolutely beautiful and has a wonderful, smooth singlefooting gait. He can really move out, he is alert on the trail, but has a great mind and isn't spooky. He will go where you ask and has handled some pretty rough terrain. Perfect ground manners too. He is great for the farrier, bathes, loads. 509-930-0957

Very
gentle, very easy going, calm and laid back 7 year old gaited mare. Ramblin' Dixie is a very cute girl, she has a long thick mane and tail and is shiney black with a star and white hind socks. She has a barefoot trim and great feet. Dixie is very gentle and non intimidating. Should make a good beginner/novice prospect as she doesn't over react to things and will be forgiving if someone "over cues" her. When she's scared, she just stops. She is not one to take off or bolt. She is one who assesses the situtation before reacting. She is very easy to tack, stands to mount and won't go until you ask her. She is also great for someone just wanting a relaxing, no hassle ride.

Older big QH: http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/grd/1995023474.html

Husband
and Kid safe 18 year old quarter horse gelding.
we rescued him from a bullet back in july. hes all better and seeking a new home.
we affectionatly call him Horse... because he came with no name. some people in the neighborhood call him Rocket because we got him just after the 4th.

about 15.2-16 hands chestnut with 4 white socks, and a blaze. and stunning icy blue eyes. HES A LOOKER FERSURE!.
he suffered a HUGE gash on his left but cheek so he has about a 1.5 foot long scar but otherwise hes absolutly beautiful.

he would be ideal for drill and trail.... gaming is ok but not recomended for the real competitive rider

he loads quietly in any trailer. gets along well with every horse around him. easy to catch. easy to feed. great for the farrier, clips and ties wonderfully. hes very polite and affectionate. hes not lazy or stubborn. will ride alone and with a group. hes not barn sower, will cross water no problem. and lounges like a real gentleman.
he NEEDS SHOES TO BE RIDDEN. and currently doin GREAT IN EASY BOOTS SIZE 1.

I did email on them yesterday..........I have not heard back yet. The first one says intermediate rider so I did not email on that one.

Yeah that is a bit of a ways away from each other. He should be good and use to noises though. I have had people say my arab is too small for me and that she is just small period. I have had people say she will have no problems handling my weight when she is old enough.

I will always have the owner of the horse do whatever first if they won't it is a no go. That is what I was taught in looking for a horse by good people I trust. I also wish they would be honest and be there especially coming from a long way away.

So how much are you able to spend for a new ride? I've got the feeling your in a hurry to get a new one but I think you need to go real slow at this. It's no fun getting matched up with the wrong horse. If you give me a price range, I sure would try to help you find a gem in your state.

Free to $1000....I have two cows that can be butchered and they are not selling so I though maybe someone would trade instead. Thank you!

This is said to be a draft cross. She is 3 years old. They said she is green broke and has had someone on her before. I thought I could start her training next spring. Current owners said she is very hard to spook. They said they would take half a cow for her. I would rather have a horse just sit then a cow if nothing else. The guy is 5' 8 and on a bit of a down hill. The horse does not look very tall to me. The horses legs seem kinda short.

What are your thoughts?

I'm not a good judge of the finer points of conformation, but he looks like a good candidate. Let's see what the experts say

I think a 3 yr old green horse would require lots of training, exposure, and/or time to be trail ready. I would think that an intermediate rider or greater would be a requirement. She does look stout enough and she would be easier to get back on out on the trail if you didn't have a stump. A three year old is just a baby though. It just depends on how soon you want to start riding.

I would call on this horse and find out why they recommend an intermediate rider.

As much as I want to say "sure, go check her out" because personally I am a big fan of many draft crosses... I am highly skeptical of this one for your purposes. With that build (especially the very short stuffy neck) she is NOT going to be easy to deal with if any issues arise, and I would absolutely not recommend buying an unstarted 3 yr old unless you have already *and in recent years* ridden a good variety of other very young unstarted horses. Not a good candidate for "want to get back into riding".

Sorry,

Pat
