I am a chef. If someone tells me the food is too slow, it's too slow. I apologise for the wait and explain that i'm cooking thier order again because I wasn't happy with the results the first time and I WILL NOT serve substandard food, then I tell them EXACTLY how much longer it will be.
1. Acknowledge that they are unhappy.
2. Let them know they will get good food.
3. they know when they will get it.
That takes about 15sec, makes them happy and they go away.
Yes, I was once a Manager ad McD's. and YES we did run out of things from time to time too. BUT!!! we told all our casheers that there will be a wait on that particular item and to suggest something else. OR we made sure to inform them that their selection is being cooked to order and that will take a little extra time. I NEVER had a complaint.
It dosen't matter how long it really takes to cook more food as long as you tell the customers how long it will take for them to get their order. It's common courtacy, They may only have a 15 min lunch break and if it takes 14 min to get a freekin salad---there's a problem.
The manager should be fired.....
I'm off my soapbox now
