McMurray Mystery Chick Breed? PICS

I think that's a good guess. Very much what my CWs looked like as chicks.

I'd get that shiny paper out of the brooder - you have to be pretty careful about what chicks have under them the first couple days or they can end up splay-legged and not able to walk properly. It takes a pretty giant effort to get it fixed, too, particularly with more than a few chicks. I used absorbent paper towels (Scott, Brawny) that has some traction so their little feet don't slide from under them, and they can go on the pine shavings after about a week.

I think my mystery chick is a Columbian Wyandottes?

Still wondering what that little mystery chick is. I learned how to "sex" the baby chicks, and she's a girl. I'm surprised at how easy it is to sex the babies. My friend said it is hard and she didn't have a clue how to do it

Thanks for the feedback on the paper, I'll try that next time -- although pecking/eating/getting stuck in wet poopy, pee pee paper towels can't be good either. They did fine on the paper which I only used for a short time -- it might look shinier in the video

There was plenty of food (and poop on the paper within a very short time

) for traction. I'm sure there are freak accidents with any bedding -- eating paper towels, or getting their little feet caught in wet paper towels, or eating shavings, or slipping, etc. I put feed on the paper and once they new what the feed was I picked it up. Underneath were shavings --- whoops, a week? Hmm. Good thing they knew what feed was

The shavings seem to be working out, but I'll keep that in mind for next time -- although next time I hope to let their mom (hen) do it! I'm sure there will be the freak accidents with that too... I will work it out, hopefully

The original post was back in November of '11. I would guess the breed and gender of the chick is apparent by now.

I can't tell whether or not she has cheek puffs. If she does (kinda looks like it) I'll toss my lot in with those who guess EE.

I think it could be be one of McMurrys versions of leghorn, or a cal white Leghorn they have spots. Its clean legged right?

Never mind just read the date on the post!! That happens to me alot I need to start looking at that first and then post! LOL
