I think that if you cancel before they ship they will do it.

I got my chicks from them last April. They were having an issue with a virus back then and I lost 11 of the 26 within a week. One ended up being a roo that we had to re-home.

I think they had the virus thing under control by mid to late May and didn't hear of any complaints after that.

I have one Barred Rock with whitish ears and she lays almost a white tinted egg, so I'm thinking we got a little Leghorn or Andalusian mixed in with her.

The rest of the girls are real pretty and of the 18 hens I have now, (I got 4 from the feed store), I'm getting 11 or 12 eggs a day.

I'll probably order from McMurray again, simply because of price and their on-time delivery.

We also have had excellent service from them. We ordered over 80 chicks this past spring and only lost 2 !I will order from them again.

Not sure what you heard that was negative about them but I have always gotten great chicks from them and also great service if there had been weather delays, etc. Any time I have had questions they were happy to answer.

I always order my broilers and production layers from them, always. I've been a customer for 7 years.

I heard the quality of the chickens wasn't good!
That some breeds didn't really resemble the breed itself!
((mind you I don't expect show quality from a hatchery))

I am thinking if a breed doesn't resemble the breed it self they must have bad strains: than the temperament the breed is suppose to have will be off!
((although I know sometimes it is the personality of 1 chicken & not the breed))

I was going to try White Orpingtons & was going to introduce new blood into my Brahmas!

McMurray is fine. Why not ask others to post some pictures of the breeds you're interested in - that is pics of their McMurray birds. That way, you'll know. I've gotten both light and dark Brahmas and they look fine. Unfortunately I don't have any pics right now.

I guess it helps to say that I've been able to identify all of my Murray McMurray birds from pics of standard breeds. None have not looked like they should. The only birds I've ever ordered that didn't meet standard were from Ideal - Marans with yellow legs.

I would reccomend McMurray as well. I have ordered Alot of chicks from them, and have a rather large order in for their first hatch in February as well. Their customer service is fantastic.
