thats where i was going with initial post,,,trying to find if it is breed specific
and /or vaccine specific,,,
or even dates in common,,,something in common,,,symptoms,,,seem the same,,,
i am not talking about your common loss due to shipping ,cold etc,,,
does anyone see a common thread in these breeds she listed above in last post?

I got my order today, and they are all doing very well so far. Only one of my white frizzles died on the way, and one didn't look well earlier, and died. Other than that, they are all up, and walking around.

Last year I ordered from them, and was very impressed. I can't remember everything exaclty, but I am impressed with the birds as they got older.

One thing you can do to help them, is right when you get them, give them sugar water. It really perks them up

lol

i got mine today too,no one died yet,,,but one looks like its had a long day,,,

Mine are going down in this order: Golden Wyandottes - Blue Laced Wyandottes - Ameraucana - all from MM and they were vaccinated.
All the Ideal chicks (Silver laced Wyandottes, Columbian Wyandottes & Ameraucanas) , which are 1 day younger & vaccinated, are fine so far.
The chicks from Ideal came 1 day later, but they were already bigger then MM's.
All the chicks from MM grew at a much slower rate then the ones from Ideal.
Ordering chicks from 2 hatcheries and pretty much the same types, has really given me a good comparison.

Thank you MP, I feel the same way, you have to expect to loose some, they are chickens... If you don't want to lose them keep them in a padded room with a tiny bit of water (so they don't drown) and some food, with a light on them, so they don't freeze, and don't order from a hatchery you don't know where the birds are coming from, and is far away. YOU HAVE TO EXPECT TO LOOSE SOME!!! They are chickens!!! That's why I order in 5's or more, so I'm not dissapointed.
Anyway, I did loose two, like I said earlier, but I thought I'd loose way more than I did.

I've got an e-mail into Cornell vet school. They have a list of all the kinds of tests they do and they aren't very much, one or two dollars a test. Being that they're only 25 minutes away, maybe that might be the way to go if one of the sick chicks happens to pass on. I wanted to see what they said first.

I also agree, the industry standard is 10% loss.
But these are my facts:
MM shipped me 31 chicks- 4 dead, 21 very sick, 2 showing signs, 4 okay so far. No losses or illness in the Ideal chicks and they have been housed together with the MM's.
