Me, my chickens, and my NEIGHBORS chickens...Grrrrrrr!

Well since I have two pens on each end of the coop, each with chicken doors accessing the coop, I shut the door to the pen where the hoodlums can't get into the coop itself, but kept the other pen and chicken door open so my chickens can get in.
The neighbor is at work until dark and has no idea I've trapped them. Yes, I'll wait until dark to get them. Knowing how the thugs live, they'll probably run around the pen in the dark when I try to get them! I've got a big tupperware bin to transport them but I know it won't fit through the neighbors chicken pen door. I'll have to carefully slide the lid open just enough to get each one at a time back in there own pen. My luck they'll all fly out and back up to the trees. Uggghhhh Gotta get my spotlights charged up for this job. 6 hours til dark now.

Goodness, you have your work cut out for you. I hope the neighbor at least helps!

Good luck.

I would tie their legs together before I put them in the tote. That way you can have some kind of control when you open the tote to get them out. Or stick them in a pillow case carry them over. I've done that before.

I pity those poor chickens! (and your neighbor)

But! Here's my advice that seems a little crazy but just might work! I want to help the chickens and your neighbor!

Get some corn and make a trail of corn leading to a trap. Most chickens find corn irresistable.

I hope this helps!

Last night I called the neighbor but no answer, so I left a message to let him know I was bringing his chickens back.
At dusk his chickens who were trapped in my pen, started panicking! I was so scared they were going to get hurt while trying every way to escape the welded wire covered pen. Finally they settled down and roosted on the huge steel tool box I stole from DH to store my feed and supplies. I told DH he would have to help me because the neighbor wasn't home. He did not want to help because he was exhausted from work and cleaning 100 fish he caught the day before. He tried to convince me to just let them out and re-trap them today. I said No WAY I was going through that stress again so out we trekked to the pen with the spotlights and huge tupperware box. I opened the pen and picked them up one at a time and put them in the box and covered it. DH said, "Wow, they're so calm...did you give them some Ambien???" LOL. I carried the box while he forged through the woods with the spotlight. We made it over to the neighbors pen and one by one put them on the roosts. All the while his beagle was barking like crazy and there were lights on in the house but no one came out. I don't think they were home because they would have heard the dog and seen the spotlight-wielding intruders out by his pen. There was no food in the pen, but a little water. I have not seen or heard from the neighbor as of now, but I did see their vehicles parked in the driveway at 7am this morning. He has to know the chickens are back because the rooster was crowing like crazy this morning. Hope he fed them. I do feel sorry for them because their coop/pen is tiny. No room to get away from each other. I predict he'll get rid of them because he got them to free range around HIS property, and now he can't let them out. I plan on walking over there this afternoon. Want to make sure the chickens have food and find out his plans for the jailed convicts! I'll let you know what he says.
