Yesterday my bantam polish died. I came out the back door, turned to go down the stairs of the deck, and there she was laying by the walk. Perfectly fine looking except for some blood on her crest and, strangely, in her nostrils.
Only this year's pullet, too.

So sorry to hear that. :hugs Maybe she bonked her head, or someone pecked her just right? I've heard that Polish and other vaulted breeds can have very fragile skulls, unfortunately. 🙁

Thank you!
So strange. She was fine 2 hours before. Maybe she did get pecked? I considered the turkeys or a roo, but she wasn't trapped or anything, she could have gotten away.
Ironically, in that same spot last year, probably about this time, guess what chook died there?
A polish pullet

Milky came back this morning! She was gone for almost a month. She's happy and slightly plump, like she was getting fed somewhere.

This little chick was under broodies in the coop, but when he started to pip I worried about the first time mom and being with the other chooks so I brought him in to the incubator (which was ready and waiting because I was going to set quail).
He spent almost a full day making no progress, so I (extremely carefully, of course) opened up the pip slightly more. The next morning fuzz was coming out of the pip, the one spot had dried. I had to help him out. He's out now and doing well!

This morning look what was in the yard! I knew she had eggs, but I thought they weren't going to hatch. She had been on them quite a while and the only drake is Winston the Welshie. Six little mules!

I think there is also another pigeon squab. See, I don't for sure know because I only reached into the box. I think I felt a little head though!
Too many pigeons!
Though, I've really liked the Brunner Pouters lately and want more! Even if they look like a poorly built paper airplane when they fly, there's something elegant and beautiful about their big globes covered in fresh iridescent feathers and their deep voices!!!
Speaking of pigeon voices, one of the Arabian Trumpeters was singing (Trumpeting?) last night. It's a very interesting sound.
