I am thinking about ording some chicks to raise and breed for meat. The breeds I have in mind are Black Australorp, Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, and Delaware. I would like to just cull some of the roos for meat and have any females I hatch as egg layers. I have a rir rooster that I want to breed with some so I can get some sex-links later on. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

I really enjoy the temperament of my Buckeyes. They get decent sized so any birds you process have a fair amount of meat. Obviously you can't compare them to say a CornishX, but they are pretty decent. The hens lay pretty well, probably not as good as some of the breeds you have listed, but they can hold their own. They do fantastic if you free range, and are feisty, funny, quirky ladies!
