I just bought a half side of beef, and the bones came with ot (for my English mastiff). However, there is lots of meat still closely attached to many of the bones. I don't want the meat still attached when I give to the dog, because he makes a mess with it.

I've got 21 chickens, and wondered if I tossed a bone in the paddock with them if they would pick off the meat. Kind of a 'pre-clean' of the bone prior to giving to the dog. I'd toss it to them in the morning, and then take it out at night to wash before giving to the dog. It's raw, grass-fed, frozen beef bones. I would thaw overnight first.

Is this OK for the chickens? And, would they actually eat the meat?

We do this all the time, you can see the dinosaur resemblance let me tell you. It may take them a little while to get used to the idea that there are edible pieces on the bone if they have never seen one before, but once they get going they do a very good job of cleaning it up.

Yeah, just tossed one out this morning and they went CRAZY for it. I watched them attack it for a few minutes - like little dinosaurs. They were ripping it clean, that's for sure. Should keep em busy all day - it was a meaty rib bone section. Thanks for the advice.

And you thought people were joking when they said don't fall down in the chicken coop ....
