Medication for sour crop?

I know this is an older post but wanted to thank you as I am now dealing with this issue. My bird had no other signs than hunched appearance, no foul smell, grit available, no long grass, etc. I happened to turn her over to see if she was egg-bound and bloody discharge came out of her mouth (vomit, I guess). It wasn't until most of it had passed that I smelled the foul smell. I am going to try the Clortrimazole and see if it works. Thanks!

My big Pumpkin (5.5 year old BO) has never been sick a day in her life (that she let me know about anyway). All of a sudden I have quite the situation and I think I caused it... Trying to be a good mom, I changed their regular feed to organic. Bad move. Pumpkin started having very loose poo which very quickly led to fly strike on her tush. (I've never seen that in my girls.....GAH!) Dealing with THAT issue, I realized that she also had sour crop. This was was a week ago. She may have had the start of the sour crop before that, I don't know. I started probiotic in her water, yogurt to eat. Started the Miconazole 2%. Have done that for 6 days.... no improvement. She's getting weaker and weaker. Not wanting to stand for long. I did not want to vomit her but she will die if something doesn't change so I vomited her yesterday morning and this morning followed immediately by more Miconazole, followed by water with probiotic. She is so weak. I feel helpless. I'm going to try syringing ACV mid morning today.... I'm desperate for other ideas.

Here's a great article on crop issues with lots of treatment suggestions.

Do you feel a hard lump in her crop? If so it may be a blockage that can't pass on its own and may require surgery.
If big and squishy with no lumps then it's slow or sour. I have treated sour crop with epsom salt treatment as described in the article. I hope you find something to save your sweet girl.

How do you know it's yeast and not bacteria, worms, or something further in? Best to get her to a vet if possible.

Its sour crop for sure. I just went out and gave her some ACV by syringe.... put her on her side to check her fly strike wound and there was a little lump of poo. Close inspection finds what I believe to be some type of worm.... can she please get a break!!! I have now syringed water/Wazine....

Impossible to know if it's yeast or bacteria without testing, and capillary worms can damage the crop, so that's another thing to think about. If you are positive it's yeast, you might want to invest in some ketoconazole and nystatin.

That worm, are you sure it wasn't a maggot?

Can you use a higher ACV ratio to water? I just gave my hens 1 1/2 cup water to 1/2 cup ACV. Is that too much? I have one hen that has been battling sour crop for awhile.

That's way too much. I think it's supposed to be something like 1 or 2 tablespoons per gallon. Can you take you hen to a vet?

I took it out and gave them a 2 tablespoon mix. I unfortunately do not have the option of taking her to a vet. I was massaging her crop this morning and she threw up 3 times on her own, I didnt even squeeze her crop. I have given her some yogurt as well. Last time this happened she threw up a piece of plastic but her crop was still being full and after a few days or so it went down but it keeps coming back. She is still in the coop with the other girls but I need to make a space for her so I can feed my other hens.

Crop problems are almost always secondary to something else, which is why I suggested a vet.
