Medicine advice for hen

Thank you for replying. I will see how the night goes. I feel like the metronidazole has not done too much for her. Does canker ever not respond to metronidazole?

No thanks goodness. I checked their mouths and nothing in there, and they don't smell. I had no idea this hen was having a problem until I went to go deworm her. I smelled her beak area before I even looked inside her mouth then I noticed the yellow cheese looking things. I thought it was pus first then I poked it with a Qtip and it is soft. I dunno. I can try giving her 2.5mg of Prednisolone to help with any inflammation, but I am at a loss. Her comb is still red and she is able to pass air efficiently, its just labored with mucus which I believe is causing her crackles. She is in the bathroom and she is so pre occupied with the chicken in the mirror that it is distracting her from feeling sick.

I am pretty confident that I am doing the most I can do for her. If she starts to fail at thriving I will have her put down. But I just don't know what is going on with her. The only thing I haven't started treating for is a fungal infection, but I do not have any systemic meds for that.

the smaller ones have kind of dissolved, but I can still see where they were. The big one hasn't changed really at all.

I've read that Thyme extract administered orally showed to be as effective as metronidazole for treating canker. Garlic is good for respiratory issues. If you have garlic flakes on hand and thyme flakes you can offer some in a dish. My girls love garlic and gobble it up....or you can sprinkle it on tuna or eggs. And if you're concerned she might have developed fungus infection you could mix some Monostat cream in some eggs for one feeding. I have done this when grasping at straws and it works. Thank you for the info. The metronidazole has not done anything and indont have any antibiotics that are not expired. Sucks. As for her shes about the same. Not worse, but not better. I am not sure if this poor girl will pull through. Thank you for thinking of her. It's what she needs right about now.

Has there been some sort of hold up in your receiving the Baytril you ordered? Many online sources have dried up lately for Tylan 50, 200, as well as the tylosin powder for pigeons. Have you ever had a state vet necropsy done before after losing a bird? I hope it doesn’t come to that, but the reports that some people have posted here can be very enlightening. I don’t know your location which can be added to your profile page, but in some states, a necropsy can be affordable if you ask about one for a backyard bird.

Yes! I ordered the baytril last week and the All bird products store where I ordered it from was closed. It finally shipped today.
I cant get my hands on tylan anymore because I live in California and apparently places wont ship to California without a vet RX...lucky us.
I live right by UC davis. If I have to have her put down, I will have them do it and have a necropsy done. Makes me sad that that is an absolute reality because I hate to loose my animals to sickness.

Was there a happy ending to your Story?

Goodmorning. Not really unfortunately. It's still in the process, my hen has not responded to any meds. I'm trying and antifungal right now, but I am not hopeful. Shes on fluconazole, probiotics, electrolytes, and tube feeding 3 times a day. She doesn't want to eat, I think from to pain. My gut feeling is that its possible cancer.
