Meet Midgie ~ My Dwarf Barred Rock Roo...

I actually have a black ameraucana that is pretty small to. I think I will put those two together and see if we can get some dwarf easter eggers. LOL. He is just so cute, I will have to take a video of him running, it is so funny, his little legs go as fast as he can. It is really funny.

Browsing through Feathersite suggests to me that dwarfism can occasionally, spontaneously occur in perfectly normal poultry bloodlines.

He sure is adorable!

You have a doxierock.

I'm glad I found this thread. I just asked on another thread if there was a dwarfism happened in chickens. I think I have a dwarf golden cuckoo marans chick. She has a normal sized head and a tiny body with short legs set wide apart. She just had an injury that caused on of her legs to spraddle at 2 weeks old. Her name is Midge (short for midget).

I have a barred rock bantam hen who looks a bit like Midge - my friends call her a" barred pebble". javascript:insert_text('

Oh my gosh! I have midges twin!!!!! I have 6 ideal babies....including 3 standard cochins. They're all 5 weeks old now and the barred cochin has not grown at all since day 1 or 2. The lone sebright bantam I have towers over her! This little cochin was shaky for the first few weeks, short wide legs, spent most of her time sitting or laying down, but always ate and drank and pooed normally. The other birds never pick on her so there's been no need to separate. She's feathering much more slowly, has feathers on about half her wings now (while the other cochins are fully feathered and only have down on their heads and abdomens. After reading your post I did a little research on dwarfism in chickens and I'm sure that's what she (and your bird) has. I guess there are three different types of dwarfism, some inherited, most not. So interesting. I'm thrilled to have read your post because it may give me an answer to "what's wrong with flappy!"
