Meet my Chick!

Pics
Chickie Hawk started to develop his “issues”, first with the other cockerels, at about 3-4 months, and it was a short trip from there to “courting” the human, to wanting to take chunks out of me once he got his own set of ladies. The “little white devils” hit the “attack the human” phase at about 16-17 weeks, Granted I had way too many cockerels at first.

I stand by my assertion that it’s not all just hormones, gender, and age... there is just so much that goes into the little developing Rooster brain. I have to say I have had far fewer issues now that I have a mix of Mature hens (that also know what a rooster is), some good Roosters, and a lot more hens. I still want to keep almost all my boys... they just have such personality. Also with free ranging I have not had as many issues either. I currently free Range Four of my roosters, three cockerels, and 15 Pullets, together mostly, and have not had any significant altercations in the past month.

Oh wow! So he was fine that whole time?! And then all of a sudden! Man, I hope that doesn’t happen!
It started slowly but within a month he was attacking me regularly. He started by shadowing me whenever I was outside, whether I was interacting with the flock or not. It escalated from there.

Thanks for adding your experiences. I think that will help to flesh out the whole picture.

It's good to hear from you again and I hope you are well. :hugs

Thanks Kris! So happy to have you here!! And yes, he does try to “court” me as well... when he starts ‘circling’ I just ignore him and or shoo him away.... as drstatton mentioned... thank you for your input.. I so appreciate it :hugs
