Meet the birds you people helped raise (2 months in newbie)

Welcome.... you already received a lot of great advice! Great job building the coop! Once you have more windows or openings you’ll have a bit more light as well, makes it easier to spot problems inside. One thing I found out early on.... chickens will not concern themselves with fences or property lines. Mine have a big yard to roam, back of the yard is conservancy. Those hoodlums managed several times to get out, heavy breeds but surprisingly fast and agile. Clipped wings for a few seasons. Yours may not venture in the open field next door but to other neighbors. I ended up with a roofed run attached to the coop to a) confine them until almost full size, free range while I was outside. b) the run comes in handy when we have a lot of foxes, coyotes and other predators around. There are times when they are more ‘present’ and show up investigating. The girls know how to hide but have still been attacked. They will stay in the run for a couple of days without fussing after close encounters, they seem to appreciate the added security. And last.... there are times when the weather gets terrible..... Mine will either huddle on the back porch and poop all over or they don’t even want to leave the run. Helps to make sure they’re safe and not have to run around trying to find them (and easier if they don’t decorate the back porch )
