Welcome to the flock! Nice coop, probably could use some more ventilation, and I'm wondering if that hardware cloth is just stapled on, looks like it in the pic. If so, consider reinforcing it with screws and fender washers or strips of wood. When you say you plan to free range, do you mean they will have access to the open space next to your house? If so, you probably shouldn't clip any wings, so they can avoid predators better.

Hi and welcome to BYC. Good luck with your coop modification. Having some flighty birds in a flock is no bad thing - they tend to be more predator-aware.

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3 I’d suggest including your location using the guide in that link, if you have not already done so. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes

Bonjour :frowand welcome! :welcome

My coop is ugly, i built it all from spare parts around the property.
It is no where near as ugly as some I've seen :lau - you've done well! As others have said I'd be concerned about the ventilation being enough but looks good! Your girls are lovely!

You may find that your more scardy chickens will warm to you when they are a bit older, mine all calm down when they get to laying age and will come for treat etc even if before they were treating me like the big bad monster!

Hello and welcome! Your flock is adorable! Awesome job on your coop! One more who agrees more ventilation will be important. I didn’t have enough ventilation in part of my coop and added a removable hardware cloth door. It hangs on hooks and latches on three sides. The original door (that still needs more ventilation holes) is still there for windy storms. I’ll attach a pic for an idea of what I did. My coop is sort of a Winchester Mystery House, so my air flow situation isn’t perfect, but you can keep the idea in your thought library. :)

Also, I completely agree the hardware cloth needs to be attached more securely if you have critters of any kind. Raccoons could probably tear that right off if it’s stapled on. Or did you use poultry staples that you have to hammer into place? Even so, I’d add a few fender washers with screws. Not trying to be critical... you’ve done a wonderful job and just a couple little modifications will help your flock. ;)

Edited to add: I read you should have at least one square foot of ventilation per bird, which is why I added that door. Good luck!
