Fun fact - We've known for years that orange females are rare, but I only this week found out why. When a female kitten gets the "double orange" needed for the red coat, the gene usually mutates to calico. That also explains why male calicos are nearly non-existent and when they do occur, they're generally either sterile or don't survive kittenhood. I've always had a soft spot for gingers, so I found that fascinating!

I have two calico too. Actually it's three the mother to the two below has two spots of dime sized orange cream.
