Metal Roof

This is what I did, works well. I'm no carpenter, so the plywood allowed me to attach the metal securely even if I missed a rafter with a screw.
 
Everyone around here just nails them to the rafters. I dont' think I've ever seen one where they used any sheathing first.
 
Just finished my garden shed this fall.

The metal roofing came in 30" widths which would not work for nailing to the rafters at either 16" or 24" o/c. We used 2 X 4 'nailer' boards between each rafter about every 2 feet apart going down from the peak. The metal roofing screws - special screws with a rubber washer attached to seal the screw hole from leaking - were then used to connect the roofing pieces to the building. Venting was all along the cap at the peak.

That's the way the directions suggested, anyway.
