yup, rotten bum gland. It is pretty easy to take care of, but it sounds like it self expressed on your couch. You are going to need some heavy duty cleaner to get that smell out. My male chi had one burst a few years ago, I had to throw away the bedding he had been sitting on bc the smell wouldnt come out. And he is 5lbs....I cant imagine how much more smelly a big dogs's bum gusher was.

I've had dogs all my life and never had this issue until now. But we also have a pug pup, and I was told with him that we have to do it regularly or he'll do it himself on our carpet.

every now and then when expressing a dog's glands some will spray a surprise direction and I have gotten it in my hair. Makes you wanna cut yer hair, lemme tell you! WHEW!

The a-n-a-l gland is probably full and expressed a little onto your couch. You most likely still need to give them a good squeeze to pevent this from happening again. Usually picky gland odor is exceptionally nasty, but short lived. Shepherds are well known for having problems with them and they can becaome impacted, fester, and become a serious problem.

Time to learn to express your dog's glands. Easy. I do it with my dogs.

Wow, that is strange. A-n-a-l is censored to picky, of all things. That almost sounds worse!

It does seem a bit strange, why picky? But I guess it comes from the slang adjective for someone who seems to want to control everything as in "____ retentive?"
