Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Pics
Here's a few pics of my 8 week old Meyer chicks. They are going out to the big girls house tomorrow ...

These are left to right ... Professor River Song the Buff Brahma, Hazel the Bearded Easter Egger, Pebbles the Barred Rock, and Pearl the White Jersey giant. In the back is Moneypenny the Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and Amy Pond the Buff Orpington.

Below are some of the same girls. (At least I HOPE they are all girls! No red combs or wattles yet at least.)

Soooo pretty!! I ordered buff brahma, EE, BA and BR from Meyer also, along with a few others... hope they are nice and healthy like yours!! Best of luck putting them in the big girl house.

Nice rooster pics. I have one more week remaining to wait. I ordered in October, so I've been waiting quite awhile. It does help distracting myself with reading and learning more and more about chickens. I think the coop is done now and the brooder is ready. I talked to the post office today and gave my number to call me as soon as they come in.

I have chick starter feed, nipple water system ready, I think I am ready, I hope so anyway.

I'll be sure to post picks of the little ones to add to this forum. The waiting is terrible!

Hatch date is February 11th! Ship date Feb 12th to 14th!
ONLY a few more days!!!! So excited for you. Post pics as soon as you can :)

I have 30 more days to wait. DH is still working on run but it's coming along and it's so much nicer than I ever thought. I'm taking pics of the progress and when it's done I will try to post.
It's going to be 20X20 with 1 wall being cedar with built in shelf and pull-out door where a metal can of feed will be. About 3/4 of it will be roofed to keep them out of the rain/sun and we can hang waterer and feeder from there. We have to build it to keep fox out during the day - we now have 2 coming through here all day long which means babies in the spring- lots of raccoons at night and the dreaded hawks all day long. I would so like to free range them when we're out there to watch them but I'm so afraid of them getting eaten.
I have a Corgi (my avatar) and I think he will be great with them and maybe help keeping the fox/hawks away. He chases them all the time now and he is the most obedient dog, not the smartest but listens to everything, I think he'll love having a new job taking care of the chickens. He has never caught/killed anything and even ignores dead birds he finds so my instinct says he will be an asset but I will certainly be careful when he is around them. If anything I think he will be scared of the chicks at first - he is such a 'chicken' when it comes to new things!

How long does everyone else have to wait for their Meyer babies???

Here is a better pic of Hazel the Barred Rock.

Moneypenny the BLRW and next to her is Koko the Black Australorp.

I think they are all beautiful and most definitely healthy. Not a runt in the bunch. Getting 3 more in April from Meyer. (Welsummer, White Sultan are ordered. Adding either a Barnevelder, Golden Buff or Columbian Wyandotte to the order as soon as eeny meeny miney mo comes up with which one.)

Wow, they look so big to me to just be 8 weeks old. That is very encouraging, I worry since it still gets cold at night here. Beautiful birds!!!

It's hard to believe the wait is almost over. They hatch tomorrow!!! I'll be nervous until the post office calls! I'll be sure to post pics.

It sounds like you have a great setup, I hope that you post pics of your coop and run, it sounds really nice. We have some fox and coyote here. We also have hawks and owls. I plan on only letting them out for free range when we are outside with them, but I think I will wait until they're bigger before I even do that.

Your Corgi is adorable, we have a chow and she likes to fight with opossums and has killed 2 of them, she's also killed a rat. I am really worried about her getting along with the chickens. I hope we can train her. I don't mind her taking care of the predators though. It sounds like you'll have much better luck with your pup.

13 weeks and 1 day. :D The wait is killing me!

Here's a story about my Meyer blue splash Marans, if anyone's interested: Frou-Frou Following Me. She's just so sweet, worth every cent we paid for her. :love

Meyer birds moved to the Big Girls House today! They look so HAPPY!

Several even discovered the high roosts already!

Okay, now to go take a nap, as I will probably be staring out the window all night listening for raccoons and the like.

Nice, they have a good view too with the pretty window. I received the notice that my chicks were shipped. The estimated arrival is tomorrow. Of course, the next 10 days are going to be cold here in NC, so more worries. I think it is amazing that chicks can be mailed and I know everyone says it is done all the time, but I am still worrying....wonder when they will call me tomorrow?.....the waiting game.......well I'll be ready as soon as they call

can't wait to see them!!!

That fancy window is my favorite thing about the coop ... and I got in on craigslist for 12 bucks! The entire coop was pretty much designed aroynd that $12 window. (And the $15 shipping crates!) I love that I an go out there, even at night, and take a peak without disturbing them. Although the flashlight does seem to make them a little crazy. I choose to believe that is only because they LOVE me!
